Lol maybe a near miss with a pellet. We see that around hear also. Someting else ALMOST had squirrel for dinner!

I'm unaware of anyone else shooting squirrels around here, but we do have a lot of dogs, and Kittys.
Last summer one of my kittys got a hold of a squirrels tail, but all the did was completely strip the squirrels tail of fur.
The really weird thing was that when I finally shot the squirrel, the kitty went and grabbed it, and wouldn't let it go. He has never bothered going after anything I have shot before other than birds sometimes as they fall from trees.
It's like he remembered the individual squirrel that got away from him.

Yeah, I too have seen quite a few ground squirrels with partial tails. Looks odd and I wonder how they communicate with each other when that happens, ya know how they use their tails to greet or warn each other.

That seem to be mainly in parts if the U.K.
Here in the States they can have rabies, and stuff that fleas, and ticks spread such as lyme disease.
Nevertheless, your comment had me running to wash my hands again

Ground squirrels in the west, particularly in California, carry the Bubonic Plague. Recent cases in Riverside County. These squirrels are not commonly eaten by the way. Mostly considered as pests.
