SWFA 12x Review

First off, another great review Joe! SWFA scopes get many rave reviews on AGN, so many in fact that I bought one. As nearly all of my shooting is done on my home 53yd range I figured that a good solid fixed power scope would be a good choice. I got the SWFA 16X mil-quad. After mounting it was immediately apparent that the target image was "cloudy". Not nearly as sharp as my Argos or Aztec set at 16X. I thought it must be defective and sent it back requesting they check it over and send me a 16X MOA-Quad. Same disapointing result and SWFA said there was nothing wrong with the scope I returned. I do shoot out of a window in a warm room into very cold air and there are "heat" waves that cause some visual disturbance but target clarity is still much better with the 2 variables mentioned. Could I have not set these fixed power scopes up correctly? Uj

They look good on paper and that's what they might be good for. Paper targets with a white background. The reticle is a little too fine for general field use. I know a couple of Hunter Division FT shooters (including me) that sent them back because of that.

Milling mottled targets under less than ideal lightning conditions, with time constraints. A lit reticle would have helped but I would simply prefer that is was bolder.

No other real complaints, though the rear ficus is a little odd.

I've been tempted to try an SWFA 16x with the MOA-quad reticle. Though I have heard mixed reviews. The 12x never caught on for 12x Hunter Division field target. I have yet to see SWFA scopes used in the new 16x Hunter Division.
