Tuning Swapping out a barrel - .177 Polygon or Conventional?

Hi All,

I've decided to look into a caliber swap in one of my PCP's. Most of my shooting is informal plinking, 12 fpe, Crossman pellets about 7.9gr or 6.6gr greens, inside 30 yards.

With that said, my immediate known available options for a barrel are a LW polygon choked or LW "Airgun" choked. There is no difference in the price of the blanks.

Is there a noticeable difference in accuracy at low power levels for the two barrel types (17.7" twist)?

This is being done just to have fun in the shop. There is no justification other than that. I am well aware that it my time would be better spent just buying another airgun in the desired configuration.

If you are aiming to shoot fast, then polygon is the barrel with higher fps but again you are shooting 12fpe so stick with conventional barrels.

Agreed. Polygon is great for fast moving slugs. Standard barrel would be good for pellets at lower power

Thanks for the information. As I posted this thread I began to think about all of the lightweight springers and other low power airguns. IFAIK, they are all running the standard barrels. There must be a reason

Time to order the barrel blank.

Pretty sure there won't be a difference at 30 yards.

Conventional 12 groove choked at that power and utility use .... IMO
