I decided 6in is the max length I willing to go. Don't want a 10 foot ldc on my gun. Lol. I'm debating between the sumo and ronin. Sumo is $150 and ronin is $185. Which is more quite. Is the ronin worth the $35 extra? Ronin is fatter, so fatter = more quiet?

General rule of thumb is bigger is better, Ronin should be a little bit quieter but not sure if it's worth the extra weight and money. However longer is better.......yes I know.
However your tune has more to do with how quiet the gun is so might want to look into that and stick with a caliber specific or correct Sumo, it's very good already.

I had the same question when trying to quiet an .25 Armada and finally purchased the Ronin as I didn't want a larger more expensive DonnyFL soup can. The Armada had a stock tune with some Hill inside parts, bottom line the report was NOT near mouse fart quiet. While this project did not workout, as I sold the Armada and traded the Ronin. It's more or less as qball said your tune is a governing factor on sound report, with the can size etc. taking the edge off of any report that is left.

FWIW.... I've tried all the moderators in the DonnyFL line to try out on my various guns. Nothing scientific, but just what sounded quietest to my ears.
I generally shoot 177 and 22 and for those my Sumo was almost always quieter than my Ronin. I think it may be because the Sumo was drilled for a 22 and the Ronin was drilled for a 25 (so it had a larger exit hole). If you shoot smaller calibers maybe a .22 Sumo would be quieter than a .25 Ronin?
The only gun I had that was quieter with the Ronin than my Sumo is my .25 cal Leshiy. The Ronin made that gun silent and the Sumo made it kind of quiet. Just my .02

I've been in the same boat regarding the DonnyFLs, and can't seem to decide. I've narrowed it down to the same two mentioned in the OP, as well as the Emperor for a .30 Impact M3. I'm also currently looking at the STO Accipiter as well. Hope to hear a bit more regarding your choices and what others have to say.
