Out of 60 some air guns, the 500CC .22 Sumatra is in top 10 I miss the most. It had a Neil Clague & adapter. yeah, I thought it was too long, too loud without it. Now that .22 slugs are here and Sumatra barrels aren't choked, it is exactly what I'm after.
I have a 500cc .25 that I'll never ever sell. I learned that the next best thing isn't always better. Plus for me, it's never mattered if it's loud or not where I've lived. That's to say, I will never live somewhere where I can't do as I want. Do I enjoy shooting quiet air guns over loud ones or if I had to go to a firing range and twitch every time someone else fires? Yes, I much prefer the quiet air guns. I'll deal with long and quiet or whatever. A Sumatra is a very good versatile rifle that can shoot slugs AND pellets.
The only things that are different are you'll be getting way more shots with pellets. Try to get a big head size, but skirt will blow out and mine is accurate no matter what. Yes, I may have a POI change, but it's consistent. Just re zero.
The .25 I have is amazing with JSB 25.43, 33.95, all the way up to the 50 grain .253's I've tried which can do 1/4" @ 40 yards. I admit, I tried 20 grain H&N FTT's as they usually are great out of everything. Well, they come in variable head sizes for .177 & .22, but in .25, they are exactly 6.35/.250 so a bit small, as depending on what year Sumatra you have, the older barrel can be a .253 or a new one has a .251"
Either way, fun air gun. I don't know what your typical target distances are, or if hunting. I have the .25 and it's great. I'm looking for a new or used .22 long 500cc and I want to find a .177 Career also, as slugs would be great out of these 2 also & sometimes ya just don't need a .25
