Stretching my Leshiy's Legs, Unexpected Results...

Today was brilliant! ~62F / 17C with a refreshing breeze. I was late driving out to one of my alternate shooting spots, and I was prepared for not getting a decent spot to shoot. To my surprise, I had an entire area along a side road to myself. There are usually no less than a dozen "tacticool" types along this particular hillside stretch - I setup quickly to make the most of the remaining daylight so I could test out 18gr JSBs at longer distances.

My first order of business was to re-zero my 5-20 SHV for the 350mm / .22 barrel. I had made some Huma reg adjustments and settled on 137bar, and the HST set for 930fps. I chose ~50m / ~55y for zeroing:

I locked in the ZeroSet (no nearly as good as the ZeroStop on my NXS!), and prepared to send a more precise group..

Needless to say, 50m became boring with the quickness! Happy with my zeroing, I proceeded to test the HST at lower settings. For 930fps @137bar, I had to dial 21 CCW clicks (22-24 would give me 945 at the top curve). 18 clicks at this reg config lays down ~835fps (255m/s).

When I tested the lower speeds, the JSBs had very loopy trajectories! I played around with the HST for a while, and come to the conclusion that 930fps was an absolute laser beam. I cannot say whether or not the results would be different at lower reg settings to achieve the same speed of ~255m/s, but I didn't want to do any field surgery to my Huma our there with the wind and dust.

After punching the 50m and 80m targets on the 16 degree uphill incline, I had my elevation turret clicks mapped out well enough to make the most out of the last paper target that I had with me (I had only brought 3 with me, derp!). I set the last one out at a -5 degree angle, and my rangefinder ranged it out to 153y / 142m:

I spent a little time fine tuning the elevation turret, and shot my first couple groups..

In all seriousness, I wasn't expecting to see anything better than ~8" at best!!! I refilled the gun and laid down another group. One after another - stacked less than an inch and a half!

I never even swapped my .25 barrel in today. Now that I have found a sweet spot for these 18gr pellets, I'm going to have some fun with it 😎

Nice shooting for sure. By the way what type/brand of 20mm rail did you buy. I was wanting to get one for one of my rifles. Bill

Thanks Bill! RE: 20MOA riser / rail, I bought a UTG off of Amazon. I wanted a little more height and clearance for my SHV (the 56mm bell will mount / clear with the NF high unimount that I have, but it's REAL tight).

I didn't have high expectations for the rail, but it's machined pretty well and it's spot on when I measured and tested..

Thanks I have and use UTG mounts and rings on some of my pcp rifles. They do the and are inexpensive.

Nice group!

Funny to see you use decimals, but it's like you do not dare to go all the way...

The metric system is really simple and most of all LOGIC! It works exactly as your dollar. (see you use the metric system every day, no pain!) The basic is the meter (dollar). There is 10 mm in a centimeter (a cent) and 10 centimeters in a decimeter (a dime) and 10 decimeters (dimes) in a meter (dollar). Or 100 centimeters (cents) in a meter (dollar). You can simply add all the numbers and, BOOM! Out comes the total value, without any difficult conversion to 8th's,12th's 32nd's or 64th's. 😅

Having lived in Europe for a big percentage of my life, believe me when i say that I both think in metric and wish the Imperial system did not exist! (and the American system of driving)

So yesterday, I brought my Leshiy out again to a different spot with longer distance options. The wind was very gusty, and I wound up setting up targets at 82y, 124y, and 155y...

I had more level playing field this time around, but what a disappointment it turned out to be when I realized that the tin of JSBs (both 18gr and 25gr) were those from Amazon that I ordered a long while ago! It was difficult sifting through pellets that didn't have bent pellet skirts - very frustrating, I'll never order another grain of lead from Amazon, ever!

My groups were solid all the way through 124y with the non-damaged 18gr pellets. I just couldn't get the 25gr to stretch out well that far though yesterday.

The first thing that I did when I arrived home was placed an order through AoA for 2,000 18gr JSBs. Hopefully, they won't be as bad as the batches that I was working with yesterday.

I wish I could leave my 350mm barrel on my Leshiy. The gun just behaves so much better for longer shots. But I always go back to the compact jumpy Leshiy because that's why I bought it. The guns quality is capable of great accuracy but its ergonomics are not. It is not an easy gun to shoot long bomb groups with. mtnGhost, I commend you on your shooting. Its much easier to punch those kinds of groups with a more conventional gun.

I know where you're coming from. Reloading isn't easy not is target re-acquisition afterwards! I've learned that it's important to get as comfortable as possible and make the terrain work for me - trying to work against it, and it's no fun.

Shooting without a bipod can be uncomfortable with a larger scope and a bipod attached, but I think an extended buttpad might help with the shouldering aspect for my stance. I'm already used to the top heaviness.

My end game for this gun is 50y to probably 140'ish. Anything further doesn't seem real consistent with my current setup. I'm having fun with it though!
