Stoeger Stoeger S4000-E .22

I' ve searched all S4000-E threads but find no mention about the necessity to "slap/hit" the end of the barrel before cocking it.
I like the rifle fine except for that - an extra step required before cocking the barrel. Also the hand gets a bit sore after a while - ziptied some good foam around the barrel which helps.
Called and talked to a Stoeger rep and they did not tell me why it is necessary nor how to modify it so not needed.

I've tried a couple fairly powerful Gamo rifles (Whisper Wildcat) and you just cock it with no slap needed.

Any ideas or even suggestions. I am still in the return window and this may be how I have to solve it.

Thanks,

Jimmy
