Still learning, probe and o-ring lube

As the title suggests, I've got a long way to go in learning the care and feeding of these PCP guns.

I did a good barrel cleaning of my guns today, and realized that the "cleaning" patch (Ballistol) is wiping the barrel breech o-ring clean too. I did a site "search" and came up with nothing.

My question, what do you all use for lubing the pellet probe body / barrel o-ring after a barrel cleaning ?

I use CLP to clean my barrels and have for the past 5 years without damage to any orings. I also wash and lube (Napier) my pellets which I believe lubes the breech Oring and keeps the barrel clean longer.

Yes that’s a good choice...that one is the silicone oil. However the Super Lube I was referring to is this one, #51004:

Is this the thicker stuff? Reading thru the comments it mentions Super Lube 56104 Silicone Oil 100 CST is a thinner viscosity. Just wondering if it makes a difference one way or the other.

I thought I'd seen somewhere "not" to use a silicone based lube on the barrel o-ring of a PCP gun. Either that note was wrong, or I miss-remembered what I read.

I have some clean room, Q-Tip type swabs I can use. They don't leave any sort of contaminant fibers anywhere.

Curlywoods, the 51004 oil is a slightly lower viscosity than the 30W non-detergent oil and 30W silicone oil that I use, and thicker than 3-in-1 oil. I’d guess it’s around 20W.

I do not lubricate the breach O-Ring. I had a Brocock Commander that I sold with 7,000+ pellets through it, never lubricated at the breach seal, and it was pristine.

You might have seen a warning about using silicone on any metal-to-metal bearing surfaces that are subjected to high heat and pressure. Which is true, as it can cause seizing under those conditions. The breech O ring doesn't really need lubricant. There may be some residual amount of Ballistol from your barrel cleaning.

If you somewhere in EU you can get a thicker Abbey silicon grease works like a charm on highly used orings. Stays on spot longer then the oil.

I've got some heavy oil / light grease that I'm going to use. Other than a thickener, it's pure silicone.

JUST, pure silicone lubricant, is very thin, runny, almost like water. Various manufacturers use different things and amounts as a thickener. From Teflon, moly paste, silica, possibly others.
