Steyr Pro X - Foolish question

Hi All,

Just thinking out-loud here.

My question is with the probe-less semi-auto airguns like the Pro X, can you do a caliber change by only changing the barrel and magazine? I realize there would be hammer spring and/or regulator adjustments to optimize but could it be as straight forward as a barrel and magazine change?

If you want that level of caliber flexibility maybe consider a Leshiy 2. I don't think you'd want to take a super high end airgun like a ProX and start tinkering with it.

If you got the cash for the PRO-X you got the cash for 2 of them one in each caliber.

I preordered 2 Delta Wolf's same reason. The Delta Wolf caliber swap are like $850.

That's sort of like saying Honda engines can't compete with Mercedes.

I'm actually okay with Odoyle's comment - The Steyr is a match grade gun, the Leshiy is an accurate shooter but not match.

The Leshiy 2 is the least accurate of all my edguns and find steyr more accurate (auto 5), have no experience with steyr X model. With that said they both have a place in the stable just got to know their limits. Will mention that Leshiy 2 has a compact and build quality like no other. Open and closes like a bank vault! If only the Leshiy had an adjustable trigger I have no doubt would allow the shooter to be more accurate. Just my experience, both are fun and serve different purposes.

Well, I'd definitely start tinkering with anything - that doesn't really have much to do with whether it's good or not. I don't see any 'caliber changes' for the Steyr, so I'll second ctshooter's suggestion to consider a Leshiy 2 - they're damn cool, caliber changes are a breeze (and encouraged, with all the bits-n-bobs available from the factory), not benchrest-accurate, but still very accurate, and did I mention they're damn cool?

Oh, and the Pro X has that darned ugly stippling on its already ugly stock...

I strongly agree. I own a 2006 Lexus that I bought new and to this day runs like the day I drove it far and away from the stealership.



My dad’s old Toyota truck had its odometer reset back to zero. That’s testament to Toyota/Lexus reliability.

I don't think you see as many reviews on match or very high-end guns in general.

Thomas, USFT, Styer, Whiscombe, EV-2, AA-FTP, etc. 

There are reviews for some but not nearly as many as there are for more popular selling guns. This could be due to several reasons. General availability, sponsorship, popularity, number of views generated. All of these guns are amazing, many of them appear in the winner's circles disproportionately to their sales. I remember watching the USFT guns very carefully a few years ago. There are probably 50-1 other guns sold but they would win and win and win. This told me 2 things, first, the owners of these guns were supremely skilled, and second, the design and build is amazing!

I would love to see more reviews of these guns as well. I don't think there is any direct correlation that only guns which are proven to be highly accurate get reviews though.

I saw some reviews on YouTube. $3200 here in the states so there aren't many of these around.

There is what there is. I’ve done a few reviews on my Steyr, mmahoney did a great one. That was the one that got me into my H5 semi auto. I love mine. I’ve had a few others and when something wasn’t right with them, the Steyr was always there ready. From what I’ve read, the H5 is a simple stout design that just keeps on working. I would assume the proX uses the same design just configured to a bull pup. The reviews are out there. Is it match grade? Hell I don’t know. I’ve never put it in a vice to find out. It gets hits on a tripod pretty well. It’s a .22 so wind is a factor. But because it’s a semi auto, you can quickly correct from the pellet strike to make a hit on your second shot. That’s the big thing for me and has served me well for a couple years with it.
