In other cases I have solved creep by carefully dressing the mating surfaces so they seal better.

The other key factor is getting the hammer strike (spring preload) right. When the velocity is adjusted to about 95 - 97% of the maximum achievable, the velocity is much less susceptible to pressure variations (creep).
