Steyr Hunting 5A Scout Long Term Review

I am enjoying your review. I recently bought my first Steyr air rifle, a Challenge Hunting, in .22. Not sure why it is designated "Hunting", since it is a single shot, no safety, and a 2-8 oz trigger. But, I didn't buy it for hunting, so, no matter. It is a great shooter. I went to the range yesterday with it and my RAW HM1000, also in .22. I set the target at about 30 yards, and shot 3, 5-shot groups with each rifle. The average for both was under .150", one small hole. The Steyr trigger is better, in fact, one of the best I have ever used. And, its design makes it a bit more versatile for position shooting. Being a repeater, the RAW is the obvious better hunting rifle. But, I digress, I'm very favorably impressed with Steyr, and I may buy one in your model at some point. It would be a great squirrel rifle. I have used my single shot on the back yard varmints since I got it a couple of weeks ago. So far, it has a perfect record in defense of our bird feeders against the invading bushytails.
Is there a major distance between the Steyr and 1000x? I’m tossing up between the 2 for 50m bench rest. X is much cheaper

Hello, has anyone tried the new (rage) slugs in the Hunting 5(a)?

I bought some 17.5 grain NSA .2165 and H&N 21 grain .217 slugs, which fit perfect in the magazine. It's now hard to get ut to the range so testing will have to wait.

I'm really curious to what this will bring, hope good groups at 100 meters.
Steyrs are NOT slug guns. You have to remember your blowing air through a magazine and it's not air tight. For Slugs you really want a direct pellet into the barrel breech situation.

the TM1000X platforms are much better for Bench Rest. Purpose orientated. The Steyr is NOT a true Bench Rest platform for lots of reasons, shot count being one of them.
