Had an FX Impact, FX t-12, FX Royale 500, and Edgun Matador and now live with a Wildcat and a Brocock Sniper. Those are keepers. I am leaning towards a Taipan Veteran. Why should I avoid purchasing one? Your thoughts please on the standard or the short.

Anyone who has one please tell me if you hear a loud ping next to your ear, the hammer falling I think, every time you take a shot. That was a closer for me on the Edgun. I bought it for a lot of reasons and those are all still solid reasons. I just couldn't live with the ping in my ear every shot. Just looking I can't determine of the hammer would be right next to your ear after getting a good cheek weld. I haven't read anything about that. Seeing nothing about it isn't a reason to think it doesn't have that flaw. Never saw anything about the Edgun either.

Forgot to include...It has to be a .25 and magazine fed.

I have a .22 shorty and .25 shorty and they don't ping. Firing cycle is very quiet and smooth. Only sound they make comes out of the end of the muzzle.

Super nice trigger. Cocking feels like a miniature Swiss vault.

A word of caution: If you do pick up a Taipan, your other rifles will become lonely.

Here's a 5-shot group with the .22 at 50yds the day I got it. I can now easily print groups like this at 60+ yards.

For some it's not an issue. For me it was a deal breaker. Like I said, I bought the R5m for many good reasons. But, that metallic ping every shot made it totally unacceptable to me. As an illustration of my intent when I bought the rifle I felt a lot of sharp edges on the stock. I had every intention of keeping the rifle and even took a file to those sharp edges knowing if I sold it I would take a hit on doing that. Also, I can't say enough good things about the distributor.

Other than that, I don't know how to answer how loud it is.

I recently bought a 25 Taipan Veteran shorty and it is one of my most accurate 100 yard sub MOA consistent shooting airguns.

It can also do sub MOA with Predator Polymags consistently as well. I have a 25 Edgun that will do sub MOA as well but it is a single shot

and I can tell you that the trigger on the Veteran is several steps above the Edgun if that matters much to you.

The Edgun has a louder mechanical noise compared to the Veteran. If quiet is your goal then the Veteran shorty with adapter and a Ronin is what I would personally recommend.

I would choose the Edgun over the Veteran if I were to knowingly subject it to harsh and extreme conditions like routinely literally throwing it in the bed of your pickup truck, regularly dropping it, or maybe even going to Iraq with it. Takes a licking but keeps on ticking.

I would choose the Veteran over the Edgun if I were careful with it as most people usualy are and not beat on it in an overly excessive manner as you could do with an Edgun.

I would choose the Veteran over an FX Wildcat even though the Wildcat has a better trigger because it seems fragile for heavy field work.

I do own a couple of FX Wildcats myself BTW they are a real joy to shoot but fragile IMHO in comparison to the above mentioned guns.

Do you think the Wildcat IS fragile or just feels that way because it's so light weight?

No intensions of making it derogatory statement. Nothing to do with weight.

I think they are fragile like some women are as compared to others.

I made that reference in comparing it to the other possible choices mentioned.

Maybe a little on the prissy side but I do like prissy gals so you know.

Then there are those strong Russian women who are beautiful but tough.

You need to handle all of them and compare them subjectively as I did.

The regulators and o-rings have been known and reported to be fragile.

This comment was based directed towards the other two choice of guns.

I am going to perhaps own more than the two I already have so you know.

The FXs are very beautiful guns in comparison to the others mentioned.

Treat is like a lady and she will be good to you. I try to take extra care when

handling and shooting mine especially when using the cocking handle.
