Starlings ganged up on Yellow bellied Sapsucker

It has been almost a month, thinned the population by 14, two misses and one probably (but feathers flew) and the bird as well. I know not a big dent in the grand scheme of things but I do what I can. Thought I might have a pair of Flickers wanting to nest in the tree, but still too many starlings, don't blame them. But more of the little birds (finches and sparrows) visit the tree for the seeds (not sure species of tree but will identify and post next time).. Starlings like it too, so I guess I will call it my bait tree as well as the 'apartment complex'. I have been alerted to the presence of starlings when a squirrel ventures into the 'apartment complex', starlings get quite agitated and call in reinforcements. Ping, "Down goes Frazier", been thinking about a scope cam to try and start filming my exploits to critique my shots and to improve my lethality. I believe that my initial accounting of the local population is inaccurate and I will continue to plink away at their invasiveness, but... The earlier "Target rich environment" has declined to cagey singles that hide behind branches and thicker foliage, but the nest in the hollow is still active so I am unsure if the pending offspring are a possible future menace. Thanks for reading...
