Squirrels Down on a new Property

Had a few issues, but managed to get a few in the bag hunting on a fresh piece of land that hasn't been hunted in years. Need to find a bigger pop-up blind...way too cramped in there when trying to film.

That one on top was a BIG male. Probably in the top 5 for the biggest I've taken. Also noticed all of their tails are a bit longer relative to their bodies than what I'm used to. Interesting...

It probably could, and that was my first thought as well, especially since this particular property hasn't been hunted in so long. However, I noticed when cleaning them that both of the smaller squirrels with the longer-than-typical tails were yearling males.

Okay, here's another guess then -- could they be a measure of exceptional health, the way some birds have bigger or brighter wattles or tailfeathers?
