Squirrels and sparrows from today

First thing in the morning, I noticed a couple squirrels had found The Feeder Zone again. I drilled one of them right off the bat; that's the one you can see in the video.

The other one came back a few minutes later. I shot at him and missed just over his head. But he ran 5' up a tree bordering my property. After checking what was behind him, I decided to take the shot. It would up being perfect; in between the right eye and ear, and out at the corresponding spot on the other side.

Later in the day, I was testing pellets through the new Compatto. Every time I shot the 30 or 40 shots, I'd go in to pump it up again. When I came out, The Feeder Zone was full of birds. Mostly natives, with a house sparrow mixed in. Each time, I drilled the house sparrow, then went back about my business. I got two of them on video, below. On the first sparrow, I managed to go through both wing joints, and I think nicked a lung too. (she was coughing up blood) You can see she tried to fly off, but the wings were maimed, and it was a no-go. She hopped over to some weeds to hide. I found her bleeding and breathing heavily. Put one through her head at point blank, and splashed brains and blood on my Huggett. Yuck.

The final count for the day was 2 squirrels and 2 sparrows with the Compatto, and three more sparrows with the Marauder.

Constant vigilance is required to keep the homestead free of varmints.

Just before dusk, there was a point when 5 cardinals at once were feeding there. I wonder if I've taken away too much of their competition? ;)

Slo-mo Impacts only:

The squirrel and maybe one of the sparrows were taken with the Compatto.

Yes, I have to wait for the sparrows to be beside the feeder, so I don't blow a hole in the feeder. It also helps that the feeder is only 10 yards away, so I don't easily miss at that range.

I did some preliminary accuracy testing yesterday. My best 10-shot group was 5/8" at 36 yards, with old CPHs. There was a light variable breeze, and I was shooting off of sticks from a lawn chair, so not ideal conditions. I'm sure the gun will do better. The copper-plated CPH and Kodiak Match tied for second best. (3/4") I haven't tried H&N FTTs in three different head sizes or the Kodiaks in three different head sizes, and I also haven't shot from a proper rest yet.

As far as practical hunting accuracy, it's no better than the Marauder at short range. It's the balance where it really pulls ahead. It makes the Marauder feel very front-heavy and hard to maneuver. (even though it doesn't matter, most times)
