N/A Springers and Plinking

I just spent 20 minutes looking for a good cow bell to shoot. Until I find it my preferred target is a .22 spinner with 1, 2, and 3 inch circles set up 50 yards from deck and 60 yards from my office window. I tried setting up 4" gong at 115 yards in woods but 2 much drop for my scope. I'll need to set up some paper down there so I can figure the hold. .22 pellet is my preferred round because I like the thwap sound over the tink sound from .177. So at present thats the gamo wildcat.

For you. It now has the Jimmy Durante look.

Actually the cow bell is wicked on the end of a chain. Swings nicely. Pounded it this morning. Awesome moving target. Had the 97 .25 cal. pounding it. Crow

Had to build a heavy pellet trap just for my 25 calibre Eliminator. Put holes through my regular one.
Crow..nice shooting on the bell! Talk about kicking the can. Lol

Thanks, you should see what I do for an encore.
Man you have some gorgeous rifles. Can’t wait to buying the stocks, last on my list. Tried getting a few from the UK when the Euro and Pound was low. They won’t ship to Canada. Crow

Based upon the boxes being somewhat lightweight I'm guess those are plastic mallets and not Thor hammers.

Their a lot more durable then a tin can. They are bells, but too weak for what I want, so I’ll reinforce the striking point. My buddy gave me these brackets which are way overkill but free

I drilled the holes on a mill machine. The top one I chocked 1/3 the hole. Crow

I have such target envy I was looking at old lawn mower blades and thinking hum I could made targets out of those.

My favorite plinker?
The HW35E.
I have an R1 and a TX200, but for sheer enjoyment for this old codger (78), nothing beats a stroll in the woods (yes we still have SOME in Northern California) with my peep sighted HW35, a pocketful of 7.9CPH pellets, a canteen of water and a combination submarine sandwich.
Not really hunting just popping off a pellet now and again at inanimate objects.
The term was “roving” in my earlier archery (I still have a longbow) days.
What a great thread! You guys have some lovely guns.

Frank, you have nailed what I love most about springers! My late friend and airgun guru Professor Gaines Blackwell used the apt term "walkaround rifle" to describe guns for that kind of relaxed shooting.

Peep-sighted barrel-cockers are made for this, and puny old me can give up some power for something easier to tote. My current walkaround rifle is the HW 35's skinny older brother, the original HW 50. One of the homeliest airguns I own LOL, but fits me like a glove and the Maccari innards shoot like a champ.

think i would have to go with
HW30 and Diopter sight's . I am actually looking for an old HW30 / 50 to learn rebuilding on , never took any spring gun apart yet .

The original HW 50 (and its snobby cousin, the HW 55 target model) are the only rifles that combine Weihrauch's famous threaded-on rear receiver, with their smaller-diameter receiver tube (both have a 25mm piston seal, same as the HW 30/R7). So easy to work on that even I can do it - but I do recommend using a spring compressor.

My HW 50 above has a Maccari spring/guide/lube kit that I installed, driving the original leather piston seal.

They would work well. Crow
I think my most fun airgun is the .22 cal HW30S. Low and slow baby, low and slow.

Be sure to take lots, yes lots of pictures as you take apart your chosen springer. Just ask me how I know. My first tear-down was my TX200. Not a happy story. Orv.
