Springer one more time

I got a used 34 and it shot terrible. I tried putting a kit in it and found horrible gouges in the chamber. Well, it never was consistent and I gave it to my neighbor. I want to try a springer again and I am looking at the hw95/r9. I am 145 lb. and don't want to hold a 10lb. gun up or carry around. I want to continue to shoot FT and those 2 guns seem like they would fit me.

My bro gave me a silver streak which I used for pests now and then and it sat in the garage, but quit pumping up a few months ago. Because of the cold I ordered a kit, maybe I'll get it going again.

I was shooting a cz s200 two piece stock in FT. It is a niece gun and shoots sweet. I am getting tired of hauling a 8cc tank made of lead around. The s00 only gets 20-25 consistent shots before a refill is necessary. So, I thot I would try to sell/trade for another gun, but I can't find a value of the s200 on ebay. I am not taking a chance because I got the cz s200 from my bro and he didn't need/want his cz t200 which he gave me and it is the one I have been using for a couple of years. So, I figured I could lose the s200 for a springer. I was told I wouldn't like going from a pcp to a springer, but 30 miles to fill a tank and haul everything around a springer looks good. Would a 95/r9 be a good fit? thx

I have owned both. Even though they are suppose to be basically the same, I find the R9s to shoot more consistently and accurately, particularly if you can find one with the muzzle weight.

All of mine have been tuned utilizing Vortek kits and they shoot very true every shot.

Don't discount the HW50S either. Its a bit less power than the 95 but it's also quite a bit lighter. I used my 50S to take a squirrel at 55yds two days ago. Its a great little gun. That being said if you plan on taking shots over 40yds often the HW95 is the better choice.

Yes I looked at the hw50, but in our hft there are more long shots than average and I want to knock down the target at 55y. I do have a friend that has 2 hw50s that he wants me to look at, I hope I don't give in. The s200 weights about the same as the hw95 I think Would it be a fair trade for a hw5 you think?

If you're shooting HFT why not just jump straight into a 97K? It really doesn't weigh that much more than a 95. I'm 145lbs as well and use a 97K for WFTF without issue.

I thot I might use it for hunting and didn't want all the weight. Also, I am over the hill and getting weaker, 78 yrs. It is true that I shoot off bucket and sticks though, I might think about it. thx

After I acquired my first HW95 I thought so highly of it that I bought a second one. For what you said you wanted it for, Field Target and hunting it will do just fine. Remember a lighter Springer will have less power and will be harder to hold steady.

I got better like a r9 .177 to mid my gamo .22. To cheap hatsan 95 .22
All 3 in that range shoots 50 yards ( my most shot distance)

Now by fit like what one shoulders me best and comfortable? That be my gamo by far. Next the r9 i got to hunch on it a little on cheek weld . The hatsan most uncomfortable. Its like made gor a small 8 year old. Then the funky trigger pull to get over.
The gamo and r9 i shoot the ¢r@p out of them / high shot counts . 2 most fun guns ive had over time.

Anyway i like fast flat shooting long range . Some guns like in .22 under 800 fsp you start lobbing more / relying on hold overs vs little to no at different ranges. .177 900+/- a bit works well Saddly you just cant walk in a shop and get a feel of a gun . You order it in hopes it satisfies you . ..

Also if the r9 is somthing you like yry to find a hw95 standard just ad good and a tad less money ,. ( Opinions)

Moog: I am use to unsteady, my s200 with scope probably weights in at 8lb, I just try to squeeze off when it crosses and that happens now and then. The hw95 is 7.5 lb and a scope makes it 8.5 so I'm ok. thx

The R9 is a great rifle. However if I was 78 I would probably go with a HW30 for closer range pesting and plinking. The HW30 is a great rifle

Are there any caliber or power restrictions for HFT? Kim’s HW50 .22 makes right at 12 FPE and shoots beautifully. Light and nimble, I pick it up occasionally just for fun. That said, my HW95 is probably still my favorite rifle. Little heavier but balances very well for me. Mine is .22 and puts out 15-16 FPE depending on pellet. Don’t have either in .177 so if you need that can’t comment.

The hw50 with .22 would have too much hold over at 55 yd for me I think. I am going to try a hw50 next week, .177. My s200 is only about 7.5 lb with scope, but hopefully I could handle 8.5-9 lb with a hw95/r9 with scope. The spec on line say a hw50 is 840 fps but I don't think I believe that. 750-800 with a 8.4 pellet might be what I want/need.

HW95 Luxus if you will be using a scope. HW85 (same gun with a bit longer barrel and a traditional stock) for irons. The Luxus comb is to high for irons. The longer barrel on the 85 will give more span between the sights. Cocks easier also. Either is everything you’re asking for. Merry Christmas everyone.

I shoot stock irons with mine 99.738% of the time .. but ya, it could be a tad better . It,s too inline or level to the receiver.. ive had worse.. them germans must have high shoulders or real short necks.. or hw never check this s stuff on a real adult human . Computer says its good .... Ship it.

One good thing about the hw95 is if you need a part or whatever goes wrong , broken or tune you can find somthing somewhere new or forum member has it to give ..

My 177 Hw97 with Sportsmatch T04C rings and a 4-12x40 Airmax weighs exactly 10.9 lbs.

Fwiw the scopes are nearly identical in size and weight.

The Hw97 is roughly 1.9 lbs heavier. It feels like more. Mine never leaves the bench.

As far as accuracy goes they both jockey for top dog. They have both shot half inch 50 yard groups on the same day with the same shooter.

The 97 is a little easier to shoot accurately. Honestly the biggest deciding factor between the two is which one is working best with the pellets at hand.

If you plan on carrying the rifle afield, I'd go with the 95. Unsupported the weight of 97 will likely work against you. At least is does me.

This is only my opinion. Ymmv.

Do not discount the HW 50 until you have actually held and shot it. In.177 it is impressive.
