N/A Springer Accuracy tip.

In December I bought a very nice old Beeman. In the process of sorting out some accuracy the butt pad was shiny and kind of slick. It would fall out of my shoulder pocket if I didn't have a bit more pressure than normal on it. The slipping was a little bit of a nuisance but the gun was like new and I didn't want to rough up a pristine 42 year old butt pad on a relatively rare gun. I finally got fed up with the slipping and roughed up the pad with 60 grit sandpaper. That cut my groups nearly in half.

Having inconsistent shoulder pressure and possibly unnoticed slippage under recoil was killing my groups. Just something to think about.

On any slick butt pad surface (wood, plastic, metal, etc) I use rubber anti-slip rug pad and double faced carpet tape. Works perfectly without damaging the surface. Ron you are so correct. A slippery butt pad will kill accuracy.

I bought some some flip flops at Wally world for a $1 , and cut them up for butt pads. Nice soft grippy rubber.

I am often surprised at how accurately I can shoot my springers, given as you say, their sensitivity to even the smallest change or tweak. Even a quarter turn on my stock or trigger guard screws can alter my POI a bit.

Agreed. It’s amazing how I can go from one session shooting dead center to another the NEXT DAY and my poi is different. The only change going on here is ME. A tiny bit different hold, angle, grip, etc. Springers are absolutely the most unforgiving of the bunch. Springers make you earn every shot! And the more powerful the Springer is, the more magnified the equation becomes.

I'll never be able to measure or quantify this, but I do notice small POI shifts with temperature variations of 10deg or more. And for sure this is more pronounced with more powerful guns. That is probably why my hw30s varies the least. That is why I always check zero if I'm going to be doing any hunting or pesting.

Decades ago I had a indoor range for practice. Shot leagues. Temperature controlled. Recoil Springers poi changed from night to night. Drove me crazy. My wife said- “short drive”!

An adjustable buttpad really helps me,long neck. Also I can relax more on my hold because buttpad now rests on my shoulder better.Because the buttpad is now lower, which rises the rifle, I do not have to bend my neck as much, and I get a better sight picture. So it does two things for me,more comfortable and better sight picture.

Short drive very funny lol I was working on the POI With my Marauder , and think it's much more pronounced with Airguns than PB's. The .177 Marauder has no kick then why was my POI off , so I added 2 sets of rings , and very very carefully tried to bump it , or drop it. My newest rifle is a Hatsan Air Tac in .177 My first springer ever I would put 5 rings on it if I could kicks hard.
