Spring compressor question

For my HW30 I used a 1/2" Bessey pipe clamp on a 48" long piece of 1/2" iron pipe. It has tremendous clamping strength. It's easily adjustable for any length. It has rubber jaws which protect the end of the barrel and the receiver. It has feet that hold it upright on the bench. Screw travel was just enough to fully decompress/compress a stock HW30 spring. I found that the barrel/receiver assembly could hang suspended between the jaws. There was no tendency for the break barrel to 'break' at the pivot point when compressed. But if necessary you can clamp the assembly to the pipe.

The only dtrawback is the screw travel, which may not be enough for lorger guns or springs with a lot of preload.
