Sportsmatch Rings

Purchased a set of Sportsmatch adjustable rings for my 97.

After 7-8 shots, my pellets start traveling downward. While inspecting my rifle for a culprit, I’ve noticed the vertical adjustment on the front ring has moved up, despite being “grunt” tight.

I’ve reached out to Sportsmatch and they told me to tighten the screws even more.

Now, after ruining two Kobalt hex heads, I’ve still got a set of rings that won’t hold true on the Z axis.

Anyone else have this problem with Sportsmatch rings?

Never had that problem, but then again I never used them on a springer.

Springers are notorious for breaking scopes, not sure I'd recommend using adjustable rings on a springer.

My Sportsmatch rings have an allen screw that "locks" the adjustment in place.

But it appears that it only keeps it from moving down, not up.

If your heart is set on using adjustable rings then I'd suggest taking them apart, scuffing up the adjustable walls, and making sure there is no oil or debris interfering with the connection.

I use a solid one piece mount with 4 lock down screws on dove tail base on my Diana 54 Air King Known as a (Scope eater) on day 1 and never had the first problem. You can even get a drooper mount to help with scope adjustment. The double recoil of a Magnum springer is tough on fixed mounts little less on adjustable mounts. You will probably strip or break screws before the mount holds the scope in place. Some rails or one piece mounts have a stop pin or a piece of metal that that grips reciever to stop movement of scope.

The only other option is recoil absorbing mounts like Dampa mount? There is one other but I can’t remember the name. Maybe ZR mount . I have no experience with recoil absorbing mounts and have seen mixed reviews on their performance. These products are sold at Pyramyd Air. Hope this helps, Steve

I swapped my 2nd set of sportsmatch adjustables from a HW30 to the 97 and they work flawlessly. I'll try ripping them apart and cleaning them. As you said, there might be some oil or dirt hiding in there somewhere.

Michael - they break scopes when people think an average scope will work and don't do the appropriate research...

You might not be a springer fan, but Sportsmatch assured me that the adjustables will work just fine on my springer.

I own several sets of SM rings, on springers and a pcp, and these are the first set I've had trouble with. It's not a springer problem, it's a ring problem.
