Sportsmatch or FX no limits

IMO as I have both, the SM are easier to set up and the jam screw makes fine adjustment easier, you also dont have to do them up as tight to keep them from moving.

The FX look nicer and are better finished but I find them to be much less easy to set up due to the non central split line and lack of jam screw.

Also the FX are not availible in 34mm so had to use the SM for my two Delta Strykers.

From what I have gathered it looks like the Sportsmatch can be adjusted by small increments more easily than the FX rings - (counting turns of the adjustment screw to dial it in). The FX rings have a much greater range of adjustment and are easier to install - (one screw per ring for adjustment). Has anyone found the Sportsmatch rings to not have enough range of adjustability? I am going to put a parameter of 100yds on this question and also exclude guns with severe barrel droop.

I'm going to also add that these will be used to mount an Athlon Argos 6-24 on either a BSA R10 MK2 .22 or on a Wildcat .25. Going to try on both and see which set up I like better - or if I need to drop hints for another set for my b-day. Lol

Finnaly one i can answer. Both are great but fx no limits has more moa to adjust. If you just need a small difference in moa sm is probably easier to use and adjust but if you need to shoot a 1250 yard shot with an airforce texan go with the fx. I use the fx and they hold zero and work as intended. I also used the sm and it worked fine but as stated earlier by someone the fx just seems like its machined a little better. Gluck merry Christmas.

If 100 yards is your range Rodeo the SM will have more than enough, dont forget they give us enough with a 12FPE gun so at USA power levels you will be fine.

On another note as SM are made in the UK they are very easy to find here, I struggled to get FX rings in the UK except from Kral in the Netherlands and the FX were nearly twice the price of the SM, considering I have 5 pairs of the SM it would add upto a fair bit of difference.

As far as the adjustment goes I read someone used feeler gauges on the rear FX ring gap to help with the height setting.

Sportsmatch fully adjustable rings without a doubt simply because they are windage adjustable. Optically center your scope and adjust the mounts for elevation and windage. For hunting the ability to adjust windage to center is more important, if you can eliminate crossover all you half to adjust for is drop. If you don't adjust windage to center you will only be zeroed at one range lets say 40 yard zero, you will shot left or right for every shot inside 40 and after 40.

I have a set of the fully adjustable Sportsmatch rings. Luckily on the rifles that I have so far the barrels and rails have been aligned. I do optically center my scopes and align the reticle with the barrel bore. Windage adjustments to center reticle to poi have been minimal. I currently have these rings on a Hatsan Nova .25 that (was) out of alignment. I have since gotten a new barrel (old one was trash) but have not used it because I picked up a WC .25.

The Sportsmatch fully adjustable rings do what they are supposed to do but can be a bit finicky to get "just so". I think that I am going to go with the SM over the FX rings. Having a set screw to hold the elevation adjustment and to be able to reference turns of that screw to changes in poi seems like a better set up.

I agree SM adjustable rings are a pain in the arse but when you get center alignment ONE TIME your good to go. Not having to worry about crossover when you're hunting is a wonderful thing, it's enuff to compensate for wind, up and downhill shots when your shooting at a 1/2 in kill zone. I've had very few guns that were perfectly aligner dovetail and barrel not to consider if the mounts are off center. Sportsmatch once and done, now if FX had windage adjustments they would be a two trick pony as they are only 50% as good, in my book 50% wont cut it.

I researched adjustable mounts on the net just a little bit ago.

Sportsmatch offers many options (sizes, rail types), whereas the others (FX, Eagle) have much less. If FX or Eagle have exactly what you need, great.

I own the Eagle and they serve me well. Lots of adjustment range. The UK seller also sells matching reducers from 30mm to 25mm (1"), and a screw-in bubble level.

Sun Optics offers also many variations but their quality and system does not convince me.

Here is the info I gathered on Sportsmatch adjustable mounts, sorted according to scope tube size.

I have both, and really do not have a preference, both work very well. I believe the criticism of FX for not being as easy to fine tune is unfair. That's easily done with the scope turret adjustment. The purpose of the adjustable ring is to simply get the scope close to its mechanical center, easily done with both of these rings. And, as the skeptic would say, any additional adjustment is a potential source of error.

Just got back into town last night with a new Athlon Argos 6-24 btr that I picked up while in AZ. Not willing to wait to get the new rings in; I took the fully adjustable Sportsmatch rings off of my Nova and used them to mount the Athlon on my Wildcat. Maybe I have a better understanding of how to install and adjust them or maybe I was a little more patient this time. The procedure went more smoothly this time and it did not take long before I had the Athlon zeroed at 10yds (with holdover) in preparation for taking it outside tomorrow for 50yd zeroing. Still going to buy the regular adjustable rings to move the Hawke over to my R10.

On a side note: Thank you Kip at AOA. Very nice talking with you. Kip made the sale of the scope when he slid it across the counter to my wife with a smile and a nod towards me saying "Merry Christmas". Way to have my back Kip! So jealous of you guys that have brick and mortar stores near you.
