Sparrows got lucky today…

Took ten sparrows today from 23-35 yards, four were taken off the circled bush, through the lift parked there. I did not recover those carcasses. But I had six misses that really vexed me as I thought they would be sure kills. I was sending Crosman Premiers. The misses occurred when sending with the TP on the lowest setting. I found that the Crosman Premiers were hitting low and left compared to the CPHPs at 25 yards?!!! But only after those 🤬🤬misses. So I’ve educated six sparrows 😡😡. At the the two higher TP levels all was good hence the ten kills. Came home switched backed to the CPHPs. Shot a few groups at 25 yards, TP on low and was immediately back. Can’t/won’t try to explain it.🤔

Great shooting on the HOSP's Luis! If there was ANY wind with your TP on low....lots of pellet movement when moving slower. Nice pics!
Randall, thanks for giving me an “out”. The missed shots were in fairly optimum, indoor conditions. So it was either me, impossible!😁 Or ??? Hope to make amends to the sparrows next go around.

It sounds like you switched pellets and velocities in the middle of your hunt(?). As you discovered the POI definitely changes. I have one gun with an adjustable transfer port, an FX Independence. I had to make a special range card with holdovers for the three different transfer port settings/velocities.

Sometimes changing the transfer Port setting requires switching to a different pellet and you will just have to experiment with different pellets and settings that maintain at least minimal change in windage poi, read the appropriate line on your range card for the holdover you need. If you are lucky, you will come up with a system that requires minimal or no changes to windage.

I fully understand the usefulness of dialing down the transfer port for slower velocities when testing indoors for instance to minimize pass-through collateral damage.
