Spare parts for the shoebox compressor.

Got an email from Tom. He said his hold store is closed and has no parts available. Best place for parts is at McMaster Carr or have another shoebox for the bigger parts. I took apart my hold shoebox yesterday and for orings and spacers, you could get everything online. Dont know the sizes needed and it would be nice to know that. For me personally, if a major part broke or wear out, I would just junk it and buy a different high quality compressor.

He just made everyones GREAT QUALITY PRODUCT DISPOSABLE. I REALLY FEEL BAD FOR THE ONES THAT PAID $1200.00. THEN ZERO FUTURE SUPPORT THATS ALL.

No need to beat this to death, so this is my last comment on the subject.

Maybe I'm the only one that thinks that he doesn't owe anyone anything. However, for the most part, the shoebox is extremely reliable, easy to rebuild and should last a very long time. Rebuilds are usually o-rings, and he included many rebuild kits with his compressor. I got 6 free o-ring rebuild kits with mine. And, at the time of purchase, anyone could have easily purchased extra parts like belts, bearings, and whatever else they thought they would need. You don't hear many problems with the shoebox, and the ones that do have issues are usually pretty simple. YO, Sorry to hear that you bought a shoebox and feel you have something that will break or fall apart on you in the future. I'd bet that you'll get many good years out of it before a rebuild depending on how much you shoot.

I've had my F10 for a bit under a year now and have had 2 problems. This was more than I expected, but I still think it's a great product and plan on many years of service from it.

Tom helped me diagnose both of the problems, but I had to pay for replacement parts. One was a vent o-ring in the back of the main block was damaged, causing pressure to vent once it reached above 3500 psi. I originally thought it was a bad burst disc. The other was the main connecting rod would walk off the crank arm while the compressor was running. The crank arm is a welded assembly with the main crank shaft and the pin that drives the pistons. The crank shaft and the pin were not parallel with each other, causing uneven wear on the bearings and eventually the connecting rod would walk off while the compressor was running.

Now that we don't have Tom for support, it's up to us that own a shoebox to share our experiences and knowledge with each other. This forum is the perfect place to create a knowledgeable base that should allow us to keep our shoeboxes running for many years to come. Most parts should be readily available from McMaster or similar and even most of the fabricated parts could be duplicated by a good machinist. These are not disposable just because Tom closed up shop.

If this is true (see link below), and I don't have a reason to doubt it, the SB are very close to disposable. Unless we find a way to get the special o-rings needed to rebuild it.

I've been looking for an drive-shaft (the part that connects the pistons to the swing arm) for my shoebox. It's starting to make noise and is loose fitting. I had this part wear out on me years ago and now that Tom has closed shop, where could i buy this part? I been through McMaster Carr but all I could find are raw material flat metal. I was hoping to just that part already made but if I need to drill and bend a metal flat stock, I could just go down to the local metal store.

For those of us that own a shoebox I think we should put together links for parts needed.
