Spanish vs US made .22 CPHPs

Picked up a tin of the Spanish made CPHPs at WallyWorld today. I use these in my Vixen compact, tuned down to 580, primarily for pigeon hunting. My zero is set at 25yds. Opened the new tin and immediately noticed the pellets are more dinged up so my first thought is the lead might be softer than the US variants. So I squeezed the skirts of each and could not deform the US pellets but the Spanish were easy to deform.

Shot the top row with the US pellets. My US pellets are coated wth beeswax to keep my barrel cleaner. So I shot row two with beeswax coated Spanish pellets. I had LOTS of fliers. So I shot row three straight from the tin with the Spanish lets and cotinued to have lots of fliers and poor accuracy.

Row 5 was shot with AA Falcon 13.4 pellets which are the most accurate pellets for this gun at this tune.

The hollow points on both appear to be equal diameter and depth and shape. The parting lines appear similar. I didn’t weigh sort or head size sort either pellets. At this point the old pellets seem to shoot a bit more accurately than the new Spanish pellets. More testing is needed in more favorable wind conditions.

What has been your experience using both pellets?

?? , Are you referring to Apolo pellets ? I'm currently shooting several different weights & styles that are quite good. The 14.6 gr(.(22) look like CPHPs , but shoot better . !8+gr Hunters do much better than H&N Bcuda Hunter Xtreme in all my guns. Hollow Points look like the H&N Crows & again shoot better. No noticable damage in tins upon receipt. The 18gr RN do great also.

No. These are Crosman Premier Hollow Point 14.3 pellets hat used to be made here in the US by Crosman but have since been farmed out by Gamo to be manufactured in Spain. Completely different tin and on the back of the package it says made in Spain.

I am not sure if its the same as or connected to Apollo or not?

I guess the next hope would be temporary made in spain untill gamo moves the usa stuff from Bloomfield ny ( i think) to there Arkansas factory/ facility ..

Now hiw much will that cost them importing from dpain with yrump hammering tariffs..lol. ( oops)

Sounds like they pulled the antimony from the alloy which isn't necessarily a bad thing overall but I will spare you the cast boolit lead alloy nerdery

Thanks for nothing daisy. This is only my thought from things I've heard in conversation with people who would know, but it's almost as though daisy is trying to spike crosman as a brand after they bought them.

Dont forget .. Daisy is under / owned by gamo as well. Hard to blame them (Daisy).

True. I forget the parent company name that I had to hear trying to return my 1 week old cfam1 m1 carbine bb shooter that completely messed the bed after maybe 500 rounds. (ez to do really fast with that gun at 25rps)

Thanks for your elaborate comparison. However the results with the old CPHPs don’t look good by any standard at just 25 yards, so the gun doesn’t like them at all. (The bottomgroup AA’s look fine, so the gun and shooter are capable…)

The result of the new CPHPs compared to the old ones is just a little worse. But since the gun doesn’t like the old ones in the first place it is (unfortunately) not a final verdict that the new ones are not good.

Not trying to bash the TS, as you did a great informative job, but what we really need is a comparison with a gun that shoots the old CPHPs lights out and then see what it does with the new ones… (I have not been able to lay hands on the new ones yet, but I have several guns of different brands (BRK, Edgun, Fx, Notos) that are VERY accurate with the old CPHPs…)

I'm going to see if I can find a tin at America's store this weekend. ALL my deuce deuces love the American cphp's so that is what I've been using. Otherwise, I'll use the more expensive HN's. I may have to check out the JTS domed. I hear they do well and they look to be reasonably priced. I'm a poor so I've only used JSBs once. The cost made it a little too painful to enjoy. But I may be outrunning my headlights. I'll see what the Spaniards do.

Dont lok as bad as the crosman essential pelleys that crosman had got and tried to sell from Brazil. They suk'ed deluxe / worse pellet ever

I guess as long as ther still affordable , shoot as good walk in store local available i could live with it . So far empty shelves for me on the gphp ( gamo primer hollow point)

I will try and find some new ones since I have a bunch of crosman barrels that shot cphp really really well in 22, I've got a lights out 177 that likes the old ones too (recently purchased)

A surprise pellet for me in .177 in the hw/r9 and pistol is that daisy hollow points . ( Spain not china) . And just pistol 10m+/- the black box daisy wad/flathead .177 . Before they all disappeared localy like everything has ..

I guess there forcing everything to be mail order only or you dont play ... 🤬.

Airgun really changed to the bad after covid for me . The air gun hobby i grew up with os prrtty dead and gone from inexpensive fun to expensive gimmick racket
