Rex is putting on another match at the Aspen Mtn location on the second weekend of July.

Last month's report can be found here: https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/southwest-airgunners-aspen-mtn-match-report-for-june-2021/?referrer=1

While we had all kinds of competitions in June (almost too much really, if too much airguns is actually a thing), we're going to streamline that a bit for July. There will be a sub 20fpe silhouette match on Friday evening around 4:30pm. Friday evening silhouette match usually starts once the FT course is done being set up, so somewhat fluid start time. Nice segue there into the main event: the sub 20fpe (regular) field target. So, silhouettes on Fri evening around 430pm, and field target Sat at 9AM, AZ time.

A day or two ago I asked Rex, since we aren't doing Xtreme FT this month and have the time for it, if we have enough targets to swing a 15 lane ft match and he confirmed that we can make that work. So we'll be having a 15 lane/60 shot field target match!!! It's only a one day match, but the Saturday match will be just like what would be shot at a big Grand Prix event. (good practice for anybody who makes the GP rounds).

As usual, we'll do our best to set a challenging and enjoyable FT match. The terrain and landscape there on Aspen Mtn really helps us out in that regard. And the 60 shot course will optimize the fun for anybody making the trip. After the hectic event last month I'm excited to have a more laid back weekend. I plan on throwing in a 10m gun and some paintballs and maybe even the matchstick shooting 2x4, perhaps a handful of quarters, some of Centercut's EBR practice sheets and maybe even some of Mike Nisches new N50 benchrest comp paper targets. . Those are all fun down-time plinking activities that we've enjoyed in past camping/ft weekends.

Come camp, shoot, and hang out with us. We don't care if you're past, current, or future friends, all are welcome.

I plan on getting to the match location around lunch on Thursday. I've heard from Dan that he's planning on being there maybe a day earlier than that. Rex and Steve Q and the rest of the gang usually filter in throughout the day on Thursday.

New Mexico may sound like a long ways away for any of you Arizona shooters, but it's only a few miles over the border from Alpine, AZ.

Here are the GPS coordinates for anybody interested: 33°43'27.9"N 108°58'16.7"W

And directions: On HWY 180, about 9 miles south of the tiny town of Luna, NM turn west onto Forest Road 209. The turn off is at mile marker 14. Follow FS209/Saddle Mountain Lookout Road about 2.6 miles. FS209 is gravel road. Luna is just a few miles over the AZ/NM state line from Alpine, AZ.

It really is just a cool location to spend a weekend, especially shooting airguns with friends.

Here's the current weather for the next few days, if the trend continues, looks like we'll be treated to highs around 80 and lows in the mid 50s, with a chance of an afternoon shower. Beautiful.
