Source of information about hunting

Hi there.

I `m new here.

Love hunting.

Ehat sources of information do you use? Videos, blogs? I want to know more about hunting...

Thanks.

The following is my opinion on sources of info for hunting. The best source of information for me is hunting with more experienced and successful hunters. There's something to be said about learning from a great example being set before you. I also like to speak with other hunters, especially older hunters. I've found that some of these guys are very knowledgeable. I will also speak with game wardens. I've even learned things from a secretary in the wildlife office. Talk to people. Reading also helps tremendously. The type of reading that helps me is discovering information about animal behavior and anatomy. I like to read studies produced by scientists and scholars about various game and pest animals often published by a regional institution or publication in proximity to the area that I wish to hunt. I also read information produced by the state wildlife agency. Lastly I like reading articles in publications like Field and Stream, Hunting Magazine, and the like. YouTube videos and podcasts are also options. Blogs are ok, but I think they can be a bit iffy in the accuracy department. All of this are very helpful sources to me, but ultimately it means little without application. So getting out there and actually hunting is one of the greatest learning aids. Get out there and immerse yourself. I've learned valuable lessons in the field despite what I read or what someone else said. Sometimes what works for the next hunter isn't as effective for me.

Welcome to the forum. My first suggestion is to sign up for a hunter safety course for the state in which you live. This way you can learn the laws of where you live and most of the people teaching the courses are very friendly and helpful. Also once you have your license you can pursue game legally. There are so many YouTube videos to watch to get an idea what you want to hunt and the tactics necessary. Then once you get comfortable on the forum you will meet people and maybe get to meet up. That is how I met a good friend of mine 15 years ago. We both loved hunting squirrels with Airguns. Once you have your license you can also just walk the woods for small game and you will quickly learn what works and what doesn’t. Where are you located?
