Somthing for electric RC car guys

This looks fun. I got 1/8th scale nitro buggies , but if i had a cheap electric rc body and a living friend to swap driving/ shooting at it would be a blast (till you blasted the car its mounted on ..lol) .
Maybe add at min 3/16 steel side plates for tire/ frame armor?

Now why didn't i think of it?😜

Ha ha ha. I have enough scrap Lexan from bodies to start my own yard. I might have to find a cheap Chinese RC car now..
Ya, that was what i was thinking . Then like mount your own critter on it. Just really needs to steer and go on the cheap.

Then if you blast cheap your feelings aint as bad hurt if it was non-cheap..😜

If you are shooting at any mentionable distance and your target are smaller, you better keep the vehicle at scaler / crawler speeds. ( walking speed )

I still think a cable car arrangement or train / track like arrangement would be better, CUZ it is only when the target go back and forth you can shoot it, the RC car when turning you will hardly be able to see the thin metal target.

You can make a 4 side target /boxed.

Then like suggested them cheap rc kids ones dont go all that fast and the radio control may have a trim on the throttle trigger. Mine do or just set the servo linkage to it can go but so fast mashing on it. Somthing that can retard it .

I keep my eyes peeled for a small low rpm motor to try the cable/ track thing . You know a free to good home type or someone has throwed out by the road thing ...lol

Thats true with the 4 sided box, my major concern is how to reset the targets if they are mechanical like knock down targets.
Hence why i was more inclined to just use papers with a regular circle target or a silhouette of a animal on it.

We are still planning to make something like that at our range, just have so many other things to do, but maybe next summer will be it

still have work to do on the model train layout in the field, and also we want to have a pellet trap to collect our lead.

I assume it a you just hit and ding report. Tepaint over pellet marks as needed.. simple not super fancy

Looks like fun. Definitely a fire risk if you pop the LiPo battery with a pellet, so I would only consider in a very open safe space.
NiMH batteries are still available. Impressive as LiPO fires are to watch, you don’t want to have to put one out. Crawler motor would keep it moving slowly. Or just way under gear. I have brushed speedos and motors I could use for this and old cheap servos becaue they’ll never get used for anything else. But, I don’t think I have an old chassis I’d want holes in.

Thats all i use nimh... Done all i ask of them.

I still use them in my nitro cars. No reason to have a servo moving so fast and hard the tires are scrubbing and you turn it down, and the weight difference just means you add weight to stay legal! But in electric if you try to race with anything but LiPo you may as well save your money and stay home.

I guees i should of said i have not done electric rc, just 1/8 scale buggy/ truggy (team associated, novarossi power). My first was a GS storm .21 buggy . The ol back yard thugster.. i did want a ofna or mugen. But the rc8 cost me enugh to run as it was..lol

Metal pinata? 3D piggy!

At the moment my idea is to make a car that can ride a mono rail, that is pretty much just a board.
A motor should the drive on 1 of the wheels and the wheels on one side should be spring loaded so they always "clamp" down on the board to provide tension.
There should then be a switch in either end the car hit, and that then flip the DV voltage so the car go the other way, by varying the voltage you can change the speed, though i do think at 50 M we plan to set up on, the speed should not exceed a brisk walking pace.

The motor / electronics should be on the back side of the mono rail protected by a steel plate, the hand over of power from the mono rail should be at the top of the rail / board so the "car" always press down on the connectors,,,,,,, connectors you like garden railway where you use track power probably need to clean,,,,, but this should only take a few minutes for a 20 - 30 feet long rail.

These power rails could be pieces of metal into a grove in the wood, it could probably also just be clean copper wire in a even shallower groove.
