Looks like a Diana rifle. I prefer the hw 97 for crazy tight groups.

That looks like an RWS 460. It is a good gun, but probably near 20 ft lbs of muzzle energy, so not the easiest to cock and shoot. If you want an easy shooting easy handling rifle, get an R7 or HW30. Same rifle different names, cheapest from Krale in the Netherlands, but AOA is pretty close.

Sounds like you want a Diana Model 34 or similar in .177 for your Dad. They are about a 14 FPE rifle. The Walther rifles are also supposed to be a good performance/price ratio rifle and I like the look of those but have never owned one. Someone also mentioned the HW/Beeman line. They have a nice trigger and are well made. One of the nicest rifles you can get is the Air Arms TX200, very accurate out of the box and a joy to shoot.

The optic is an SWFA 10x you can get less expensive glass but you wont find anything that is nearly as good a value as the fixed power SWFA optics. Happy shooting.

I can personally vouch for the Walther. I have 2 of them (.177 & .22) Love that rifle. Underlever accuracy in a Breakbarrel.

Here are pictures of my D48 and what that old springer can do. This one is marked "Made in West Germany" =)

D48 with SWFA 10x scope and H&N FTT pellets from the tin.

Target shot at 35 yards.

And all shots under a quarter.

Not bad for a 30 year old springer.
