Wow that's some serious expansion if it holds up further out.

Do you think the lighter slugs are opening up more due to the (very slightly) increased velocity or because their hollow point cavity is bigger to shed weight? Or is the hollow point cavity fairly uniform on all of them with the overall length accounting for the difference?

Either way whatever gets hit is gonna feel the slap! 😆

Thanks for the testing. Sure seems that the slugs are out performing most hp pellets, even though the slugs are being shot in the 900 fps plus area. That probably accounts for the great pop impact sound shooters are getting on various pest birds. Bill

Here are a few popular 22 cal pellets that are showing there expansion

all were shot into a block of glycerin soap for maximum expansion .

on the left is a Pollymag

in the middle H&N Hunter Extreme

on the right Varmintknockers 22.5

Here is same slug but made with 5% TIN So it can be used for large game . The pure lead is great for expansion but it wont penetrate deeply for bigger game , bthis was recovered from a adult coyote it went threw coyote and was under fur exiting a few more fpe I would not of found it

I am new to this forum. I wanted to thank Bob_O for his input through PM. I have just started experimenting with slugs in my .22 FX Impact. I did not have any luck with any slugs at 1st but after doing lots of work to my gun I now get great groups with the VN 24gr slugs, at least at 50 yds. I haven`t had time to do further testing yet.

Very nice SC! Yeah Bob is great that way, generous and knowledgeable. Proud to call him a friend (although my wife suspects he's really an imaginary friend like when I was kid...the only proof I have otherwise is when we exchange voice messages... ;) ) Its not surprising he's so well thought of on AGN and also not surprising that members of the air gun industry recognize that too. Bob eats, sleeps and... well another another biological process thats unlikely if not impossible to visualize...

The on-point comment I'd make here is that one has to put the time in on the bench, over chronograph and in the field. There really isn't any magic to it, its like anything, you read you ask questions, and work at it to get results.
