Some Skinney on Available scopes for the AirGun Nation

Okay guys and gals you wanna talk about a headache I just spent pretty much most of the day on the phone with like ten different scope manufactures getting the lowdown on scopes that will focus down in our range of shooting

I will say this almost all of them were very helpful and did the best they could to answer my questions. I still have some emails coming to me but here is what I have gleaned so far.
Sightron
Leupold
  • VX-2 3-9x33mm EFR – 110827 (10 yards – infinity) Lowest Retail 399
  • VX-2 3-9x33mm EFR CDS – 120617 (10 yards – infinity) Lowest Retail 449
  • VX-2 4-12x40mm Adj. Obj. – 110808 (25 yards – infinity) 399
  • VX-2 4-12x40mm Adj. Obj. CDS – 120613 (25 yards – infinity) 449
  • VX-3i 6.5-20x40mm EFR CDS target - 170885 (10 yards – infinity) 699

Got some more information coming the prices are the lowest they are supposed to be sold at not what they are available at

I was really amazed by the fact that they have the information just didn't publish it in the specs. Joe is going to whack me in the head for saying this but its those darn springers that has caused so many of the manufactures to avoid the airgun market.
They seem to think all airguns will destroy a scope.
I have also called
Nikon
Weaver
Bushnell
FireField
Burris
and SightMark

Thanks for putting this together.

Does Sightron offer mil turrets to match mil reticles? I only see mil/moa which would be problematic to me at least. Is illumination useful in practice for varmint hunting?

It is really weird to me that Leupold doesn't offer mil-dot reticles (with matching mil turrets) as a standard option. Duplex & CDS is deal-breakers to me on otherwise nice scopes from what I hear. Wasn't Leupold going to release something for the AG world? I sent them a message via their website a while back, and never heard back.

I will find out about the turrets,
If you are hunting prey that is back-dropped by a dark surface then yeah an IR might make things a little easier the issue that I have run into is that the IR can actually wash out your view if it is too bright, I like to actually keep my almost dead batteries for this very reason it will illuminate the reticle but be much dimmer than the normal lowest setting. There are times when it comes in handy but most of the time you really wouldn't need it.
As to Leupold I think the answer is the EFR series of scopes Hopefully Joe will jump in on that topic he knows more about this part of the deal than I do

Great work Willie !!!!! Man I have my personal opinion based on absolutely nothing but a hunch as why scope makers are reluctant to put " springer rated " on their scopes .
Most guys know about the double recoil and all that but its not the TX200 rifles , or the HW95 , Berman R7, or many more rifles that scare the warranty departments off .
Its the Nitro Piston and Other true magnum springers that wreck scopes . Guys who say they have had the same old ( fill n tha blank ) scope on their Diana 52 or Hatsan 125 for 4 million shots and never had a bit of trouble are SUPER LUCKY , or need to up their meds ...Simple as that .
It would be like a New car maker saying 3 years , 36,000 miles no matter WHAT !!! Drive it into a river , flip it end over end , make a ramp jumper out of it ....We will replace it no matter what . That wouldn't make sense . If you owned a scope company , would you want your scopes put on a gun with a reputation for wrecking scopes if you didn't have to ? Probably not .
For example I know for a fact that my new SWFA 10X scope is guaranteed for any gun . 50 caliber included . I wouldn't hesitate to lend it to a friend to strap on his 300 Weatherby. But no way do I want it bolted down to a hard kicking springer ...Warranty or not , I don't wanna take a chance with my scope . I've seen way too many scopes got to poop after getting beat up by a spring gun.
Only 2 types of scopes are warranted for springer use . The really beefed up internally scopes that can handle the strong double recoil and the wicked vibrations .And the other type , the scopes that are made cheaply , and have such a large markup that replacing one in 3 or 4 is no biggie. They still make money.
I have called Bullpoop on several occasions when reading the same regurgitation of Airgun " knowledge" that has been passed down with no one questioning it. But magnum spring rifles , and Nitro piston guns are hard AF on scopes . No doubt about it .
