Some basic scope questions..

I have a Hawke varmint 4-16x44 sf on my gun.
It's fine for me no real problems, I shoot well with it and it's clear.
I do notice that it does require a good placement of the cheek/eye to get a nice picture with no tunnel etc.
Seems harder than my old scope.
I am fine with it because I am used to it but my friends struggle when we have a few shots.
If I go from a 1" tube to 30mill will that help obtain a full view through the scope easier or will it be only helped by going bigger in the lenses like 4-16x 50?
I don't want to go bigger on my gun to be honest.

The other thing is at night if I am hunting using a spot and get real close to my target (10m) I need to add magnification to be able to focus which seems contrary to me?
I need to put some time in and figure it out I guess but I just was on her having a read and decided to post my questions.
