Any major downsides to using a soft case for general travel in the back of an SUV? Coming from power burners I mainly use soft case with hard cases reserved for airline travel. FX with mod is too long for the factory case.

Hard cases always . when i go to the range i have a wooden box that holds rifles straight up IE: not on their side . (rebuilding now to hold 5 guns )

hard cases for me.
the same whack that my hard cases take without disturbing the gun inside,
could easily make a gun in a soft case lose zero. IMO

Guess it depends on your gun. If your gun is susceptible to POI shifts due to bumps, then you might should stick to hard cases. I have been fine with my soft case and being careful.

Truck car or SUV... I'll use a soft case setting on a cushion or the seat. the SXS or 4 wheeler, tractor... Hard case!

Definitely soft case. Competiton shooters work on a completely different brain wave-length than us plinkers and hunters.

Transporting to the range or hunting I always use soft cases for either Airguns or powder burners. I reserve hard cases for flying or shipping.

I guess it depends on how much bumping around there is in the back of an SUV and what airgun. Some are more delicate than others. Also, If it has a nice walnut or laminate stock, I might take it in consideration on using a hard case.

In the back of my station wagon a soft case has been more than adequate. When transporting in my pickup truck bed, a hard case.

I have a soft case that I got at Academy some years ago and use it to keep my RTI Prophet in. No complaints so far.

The padding of the case is, for me, more important than a soft or hard outer shell. The case my FX Panthera came in, offers little to no protection as there is little padding around certain areas. The manometers touch the outside of the case for example.
My Air Arms S510 resides in a Pillarlock hard case with about 15mm of padding around the gun. The Panthera has a soft case at the moment with 40mm of padding on each side to relieve the stress on the manometers. I would not put my Panthera in that Pillarlock case. It just is not the right case for that gun.
