There was a thread that started in here yesterday re: people potentially "faking it" with respect to shooting groups ( longer distances in particular ). It's a good read. Anyway - I just happened to have done a 100 yard test myself yesterday purely by coincidence as I hadn't seen that thread developing. Fast fwd'ing to today . . .
** in general . . . ** Pellets are considered to be more accurate than slugs?
They may not fly as far or hit as hard but from a pure accuracy standpoint - they're supposed to be king - yes?
I've been shooting slugs with my .22 and have it tuned pretty well now. I ain't touchin' it or changing it! ( lol ) Regarding the earlier thread from above - I posted up that 100 yard group as I was (still am) pretty pleased with it. ( me thinking to myself after I got home from the races today -- " . . . if pellets are *more* accurate than slugs - I wonder . . . . " ) ;-) So I headed off to the local range where I shoot and loaded up jsb 18.1's into my .22 knowing that they would likely be "smoking" coming out of it as the gun is tuned for the heavier slugs. Indeed - 1055fps! Yowza . . . ( lol )
I found (surprisingly consistent) accuracy with them though at 50 and 70 yards. *REALLY* good accuracy. I put a target out at 100 - BZZZZZZ! Thanks for playing. {sigh} I'm guessing they started to spin / spiral ( or whatever ) out beyond the 75 - 80 yard mark? I dunno - it just fell apart - likely just because going to fast. All the top dogs (Ted B, probably Tomcat, any number of you top guns in here - . . . I'm pretty sure they all shoot 100 yards (with pellets) at around 850-880 or so - yes? ) . So - not even having hit the target out at 100 I just loaded a magazine of the slugs that the gun is tuned for and got this. This one is even better than yesterday, and unlike yesterday it was even a bit on the windy side. ( yesterday it was dead calm ) According the the weather app on my cell the wind was averaging 6-7 mph and would periodically "spike" to . . . I don't know - a pretty stiff breeze. I was able to feel / catch it every time it did this and would just sit and wait for it to settle before pulling the trigger. Except once. {sigh} The wind kicked up and "grabbed" this one shot and killed my otherwise good group I had going. ( argh . . . . lol ) Yeah - that one way out in left field @9:00. {sigh}
