So my Omega compressor started making intermittent knocking noise

about a month ago. Contacted Todd from AOA and started to tear it apart. What I found as you see in the pictures is the rubber bushings in the gear housing are dry rotting even though they are covered in gear oil all the time. So the ones that have completely failed are knocking, I am hoping, which would explain the intermittent knock. He suggested gas line hose which I found at Ace Hardware, they actually had a great selection of hose. Don’t know if anyone else has had this problem, and I hope you don’t, the compressor is about 8 years old. The last picture shows the motor end with the roller and regular bearings which turned fine. Didn’t see any metal shavings in the oil or elsewhere so that’s a positive. Rick

i would say find a small machine shop locally and ask the to make a new one. its a simple job and should cost to much

I like the gas line suggestion as it's made for petroleum products. If you can find one with, at least, the same wall thickness it should be easy to cut your own.

Has Todd rebuild mine then sold it and bought an Alkin W31 about two years ago. Best investment I have ever made.

Maybe measure things up and find good bushings ..


Nylon, Teflon, neoprene, somthing real life ?

Thing is why dont the dealer / seller / distributor have them ready as replacement parts ?

Just fill the holes with red rtv .. ya , ya, dats da ticket , ya .

Lol.. they figure a pcp guy has disposable income.. nice guns but that support overhead cost. just to get to shoot it once..ijdk. its just so much easier for them if you just buy another then keep a 25$ part handy

My ALPHA 90 knocked for years .. finally just failed to make pressure after its 3 total pump section overhaul & @ 40 or so hours on it after the fact.
Total time to Total Failure & 3 rebuilds .... IIRC less than 400 hours
It has sat on shop floor for a year and a half so far.

Rather than dry rot, my guess is the gear oil caused them to break down. Good suggestions above on getting oil / gas resistant material to replace them.

That would be nice, but for know I am going to try thicker wall tubing, hoping it will last longer.
