Bob, I don’t know if you mentioned it, but what do you do with the dead starlings? The ones I kill, I give to the local foxes, but I don’t kill them in the numbers you do...yet.

The farmer disposes of them. There is a compost pile on the property for dead animals (cows die for various reasons) and they all go there. All the crows I shoot on the property go there too.

The numbers of starlings you guys are whacking are doing so much good for nesting birds come the spring. That’s a ton of birds that won’t be competing for nesting cavities and food!

I'm going to ask the farmer to unboard the large holes in the barn two days before I go back there, so the starlings and pigeons will fill it up again. He'll do it if I ask - to check for the population in there and let me know - before I commit to going.
He knows it costs me $40 for gas and snacks each visit, which adds up if I go there 4 to 6 times per month. He'll want to make sure I get my "money's worth". Plus he hates starlings so he'll help me in whatever way he can.
