My hawke sidewinder but I do feel the hawke has a wider view at the same distance /scope power. I'm not sure why this is because the hawke is only 42 mm and athlon is 50???? Maybe someone with more scope knowledge can explain...maybe it's because hawke is longer ? I still feel more comfy with the reticle and eye relief of the hawke...stay tuned for 100 yard comparison in backyard.
So far clarity of the athlon midas is on par with...

Which Hawke are you referencing? Here are the listed specs at 100yds for each. Looks like the Midas has more at max, and slightly less then the 6.5-20 at minimum
I see the Midas 6-24 as 4.6 to 17.8ft
I see the 6.5-20 Hawke as 5.6 to 16.8ft
and the 8.5-25 Hawke as 4.2 to 12.7ft

Has Hawke improved their glass in the past 7 or 8 years that anyone knows of ? My friend Bob has two older Sidewinders. and they appear slightly "yellowish" compared to even Bushnell Trophys, and Simnmons scopes. Yet my Athlon is brighter and clearer than ANY of them. I wonder if it's the differences in everyone's eyes being slightly different? Maybe this yellowish is a thing of the past ?

The 42mm vs 50mm wouldn't matter for field of view, it is for light gathering.
The HAWKE seems to be built more tough but you pay the extra for it.
If you are comparing optical clarity to the Hawke 6.5-20X42 then that Athlon
you have is a relatively good deal for $249.

The HAWKE, specifically speaking for the 6.5-20x42 seems to be a freak of nature because according to MY EYES,
it is significantly clearer than any of the other SW30s of different magnification range that I have looked through and also had a preceived wider field of view as well.
There were FEW UTGs I have looked through that were great that even I could not believe.

All of the Hawkes I ever looked through were nothing to brag about , until I got a Frontier 2.5-15, now that is some decent optics. However I think my Midas 4-27 is slightly better optically to my eyes. I have not looked through my Midas 2.5-15 enough yet to tell, still in box. I also just bought an Ares 4-27 FFP from member on here, also still in box. When I get a warm day & I may take them all outside & compare.

I have a hawke 6.5x20x42...it might be a freak of nature because field of view seems wider for sure.

Not freak of nature, but if you put the gun in a rest and align the left side with an object and see where the right side goes to, and then do the same with the other scope you can get a fairly accurate measurement. Not sure if while hold a gun and looking thru the scope I could see the difference of 16.8 vs 17.8 feet at 100 yds on 6x.
Now the Hawke actually does have a wider view on the highest power, which is 4.6 vs 5.6 feet at 100 yds. This difference you likely can see and is probably due to the 20x vs 24x.

When you look through some scopes it will appear to have a nice wider field of view less tunnel vision.
A Bushnell Legend 5-15x40AO MD for example also has this wow factor effect according to MY EYES for example.

Guess I should have just stayed out of the post as my Mind Reading skills are lacking. I have a 6-24 Midas on the way and without OP mentioning anything other then Athlon Midas I figured maybe it was the same scope.
