Hi , I've heard many times that pellets cannot be lubed when shot through a Smooth Twist Barrel . I don't know why , but is it true...or fake news ?

I might be wrong but my understanding is that STX barrels reshape the pellet, that is what make it so consistent even with non selected pellets, just out of the tin. (JSB)
Lube will not help for that, lube is usually to reduce the friction on less choked barrelsĀ

Ok, things are clear now. I must say that I've never compared the results between lubed and "dry" pellets though my Wildcat.

that is why there are different versions on toĀ lube or not to lube, will depend on the barrel

Sone smooth tvist x barrels can foul up with lead, usually near the choke. Lubing wil hjelp om that. Alternativ is to clean the barrel often. I have heard after a certain ammount og shoots from a new barrel, the barrel Will be polished by the pellets, and does not need to be cleaned ad often anymore.

I tested my Crown and Royale a LOT in preparation for the EBR. The Crown STX leaded up miserably so I tried a lot of different lubes but most would open up the groups to terrible. I finally found a couple that seemed to help with the leading and not shoot worse. The one I use now is Gunzilla for both bore cleaning AND pellet lube. Your results may differ, of course, but if you don't have a problem with leading, don't bother .

I agree with Bob. I've shot thousands of pellets through my .30 Bobcat (ST Barrel) prior to cleaning. When I did clean it, I pulled one wet (Ballistol) patch through it that came out semi-black, one more that was light grey, and then two dry patches that were clean. That was with at LEAST ten 150 pellet tins of JSB Exact 44.75 grain pellets through it.

I have 3 fx rifles with orig s/t barrels and have always lubed my pellets. after 12,000 pellets through my .25 cal impact I haven't even needed a breech oring changed. I believe its partly due to the lubed pellets... I use napier power pellet lube btw.

Iāve used Napier pelletĀ lubeĀ with JSB 18.13 in my Royale and Wildcat (both original smooth twist).Ā IĀ didnāt notice any difference in accuracy with non-lubed vs lubed pellets. I tried lubing my pellets to reduce lead fouling and reduce the frequency of cleaning the barrel which I believeĀ it did.
It only takes me fiveĀ minutes to clean and lube a tin of pellets so I donāt mind doing it. However, I havenāt lubed my last two tins of pellets and the guns are shooting just fine.Ā
Pellet lube is cheap so give it a try and see how it works for you.

I am pretty sure JSBās are already lubed with something because they sure feel waxy to me and you can even scrape the coating off with your fingernail.

I lubeĀ with silicon now. No more leading. No more cleaning. I had about 6,000 rounds through it and it still leaded up every 150-200Ā shots or so. Once i started lubing i only needed about 500 to stop the leading. Ill take it!
