Slugs????

I want to order some slugs for my springer in .22. When looking at the offerings I see that they are like .219 and .217 but are listed as .22 cal. Now I don't know what to order.

It is just an experiment to see if it will begin to shoot. I don't seem to be able to leave it alone. I belive that something that it just has to shoot some thing well.....maybe.

Please offer advice.

Thank You and God Bless

Bobby

There is no real shortcut to finding out what slugs will do well out of a certain rifle. Even 2 of the same rifles will likely have different preferences and favorites. The only way to know is to buy a wide variety of slugs and test them out. However, with that being said springers aren’t typically good candidates for slugs. Usually you want a high powered pcp. I have seen some post on here with people saying they have some springers that can group slugs. It is just trial and error. If the urge is worth spending 50-100 with the knowledge none might work then I would say give it a try. If none group well you could likely sell them for half price on the forum since they will just become paperweights.

What springer do you have?

If you can push a pellet through & measure it with caliper or micrometer that should also be known. NSA sells .2165-.217-.2175-.218 and maybe .2185 I haven't bought any bulk ones.

Even if you have a magnum springer start with the lightest .22 slugs you can find. 15-18 grains for a magnum or less weight and honestly I wouldn't even want to try it. Just MHO.
Someone here has tried it but they're going to be able to help you more than me if they know what springer model.

16 grain .217 https://griffinairgunammo.com/collections/217-slugs

https://nielsenspecialtyammo.com/products/17-5-grain-375-count-22-cal-slug-nsa as small as .2155" OD but 17.5 grain. Right size OD and a 48, 350, R1, HW80, Definitely a Hatsan. I guess I didn't think about them. Heck yeah they could potentially do it.

I got into airguns by buying a Benjaman Rushmore at a pawn shop. It is a nice looking, well built gun. I can't get it to shoot a decent group.

Slugs was just a idea cause I have not tried any yet. You know the drowning man will grab any straw.

My Hatsan will shoot,my Gamo 100 dollar Whisper will shoot. My Used Ruger that looks like it was drug down a gravel road will shoot . Which leads me to belive it is the gun or ammo.

Thank You

Slugs for a springer? Good luck. Like other have said. You need a high power pcp. Just the recoil from the break barrel will make it hard to group even with pellet. Let alone slugs. They factor in the trigger. Pcp have way better triggers than any break barrels. Last but not least, the barrel aren't made to shoot slugs. If you need a budget gun that can shoot slugs check out Matt's video on the avenger pcp.

Tried 10.3 gr slugs out of my Air Arms TX200 MK3 .177 and they actually did group 👍

Not as good as pellets out of this amazing springer, but they did shoot okey 😃

Been there, tried it but in .177. They group ok but nothing to write home or brag about and pellets just shoot better.

Random usual lame thought and maybe I just missed it, but have you posted a thread on the Benji, the problems you're having, the different pellets tried?? You might well get some very good ideas on things to look for, things to tweak and different pellets to try and first would be a CDT trigger. Night and day difference in how your gun will shoot vs the junk Crosman puts in some of their break barrels.

Bulletbob,

this is the right time to join the party! 😄

The choices are vast...., with NSA leading the way (again) — by offering not 1 or 2 but 5 diameters — to make the slug better fit your barrel. 👍🏼
