Slugs -will they damage rifling?

Hey guys, 

I wanted to give slugs a go to my Walther Parris break barrel. Does anyone know if they will damage the rifling? Anything else I should know? I haven't got any experience with slugs and I was looking either fx hybrid or Nielsen 17 grains.

Just to clarify, this is just for fun and experimentation.

I have found the JSB Hades .22 to be scary accurate out of my Parrus.

The only possible bad is if the break barrel doesn’t have the power to push the slug out but that is not likely

Agreed. I suppose you could just shoot multiple times, and if that doesn’t work then you could push it out.

I'd have a carbon fiber ram rod lined up just in case. I doubt lead will damage steel on its own but removing lead from that barrel could in fact hurt the barrel. Idk tho the parrus is pretty powerful. Would probably punch it out. Good luck.

There are some undersized slug diameters offered in the .<.22 caliber range (.213-.218) that you can shop for, and those should easily pass though without getting jammed up. If you can push a similar weighted pellet at 650 ftps or more then I think a smaller slug is safe. Just make sure to buy something like this: Nielsen Specialty Ammo .217 @AOA

So it’s not true! Yo is back and sharing wisdom in only a way Yo can. BTW it’s a shart. And you failed to mention the Often third variable and that is trying to hold in a laugh at the same time. Often ends in catastrophic failure.

Keep in mind that some barrels really hate undersized pellet heads. So these smaller ones may shoot great or they may shoot like crap. I would buy a test pack if available and just see what size it likes. Or at least buy a small tin first.
