Slugs - to lube or not to lube

I am lubing my pellets and started recently with slugs as well. But I read somewhere that the rifling shape is more influential then the lubing or waxing both the barrel or the pellets/slugs.

Same here. On everything I shoot. Barrel stays cleaner and a lot less leading. Accuracy is no different with or without.

Have any here tried coating your slugs instead. I use hi Tec coatings as it works very well form me. It is a very durable coating that is also very thin as not to change the dia.

I use a silicone spray on my cast bullets before sizing them. they seem to look new longer than unlubed.

I use 2 types of silicone. The CLP will clean the lead out of the barrel nicely & will coat the barrel well. But,, I wasn't sure about using it because of its aggressive nature before drying. So I use CLP for my cast slugs & use Blaster industrial strength silicone for my barrel. From what I've seen, it cleans the lead out about as good.

I coat every thing I shoot. I use HI -TEK bullet coating. It is a very thin tuff bake on coating. I never get
lead in my barrel. I like this coating over powder coat because it it very thin & very tuff with no flaking
or rubbing off. I recover my slugs & pellets In my bullet trap. You can see were they engaged the rifling
but never any loss of coating.

Wash/Dry - few drops of Lucas RC10 on a Q-Tip & toss it all in a plastic bag. works like a dream. need to condition your barrel for best results, mine - LW polygonal, hand lapped.

Never liked to wash them but a tiny bit of lube makes me feel like it works better.

I would not lube our NSA slugs, .300 caliber and below. We clean our slugs and then dried under fans. After they are dry they are lubed and lightly tumbled to get the lube even and then bagged and boxed. We have switched to a silicone lube that is very slippery and seems to be very good and leaves a nice finish too.

Before that we used Slick 50 in a spray can which I used for years and works nice. The issue with it is it leave a residue which does not leave the bullets looking as nice after it sits on the lead over time.

Nick, is this the process your still using? I just recieved my three boxes of 36.2's and was considering if any other prep would be needed or recommended. Great service by the way, Had them in just a few days.
