Has anyone ran slugs in the .25 cal. 250z yet? If you have what size did you have luck with? Thanks.
Can you post a photo showing the difference between cup base and dish base? Thank you.I wouldn’t go .249… I’ve used .250 and .251… and chrono numbers I get have been better than a lot of the review videos I’ve seen where they are testing slugs. Slugging your barrel is the best choice of course. But getting a good seal around the slug gives better performance. Cup base and dish base both work great. I think cup base slightly better…. The Franco slugs I use are most like NSA slugs.
These are cup base. The bottom is flat with that lip like cup. The dish shape is like a lens across the back and no lip.Can you post a photo showing the difference between cup base and dish base? Thank you.
Yes just squish it a little make slightly fatter. Then yes measure the fattest part. That’s the main contact surfaceCan you expand on the measuring part? The slug would have rifling marks, would I be measuring the widest part of the slug? Also when you squeeze in the vice are you clamping on the base and tip to make it shorter and fatter? Thank you. I’m very new to the slug game.

First time shooting my 250 Z 25 caliber tried a bunch of slugs today did not have too much time but was able to shoot a bunch of three shot groups. At 50 yards. Just to see what it might like shot about 15 different slugs and weights the best ones so far, where the H&N grizzly 31 grain three shots touching also the Zan 33 grain about a three-quarter inch group, but I saw some videos of the H&N . 249 36gr that shot really good at 100 yards and 170 yards YouTube shooting gear reviews. I haven’t tried them but need to get some. Maybe the 249 is the size to go with but need to do more testing trying to find the perfect slug for my 250 Z have you tried any other slugs?I’m in
In one slug test video I saw it really liked the H&N .249 36gr but the guy had turned it up to 2500 on the regulator. Nothing else was changed.
I have not tried any .249 slugs. Only .250 or .251 and it shoots both of them really well. I’ve tried patriot javelins, several H&N’s, apolo 33gr and 40gr… I would suggest trying an NSA cup base slug between 28-32gr… the best I’ve used are Franco slugs. He’s a guy I found in the classifieds here on AGN… my gun likes all of them from 30-37.First time shooting my 250 Z 25 caliber tried a bunch of slugs today did not have too much time but was able to shoot a bunch of three shot groups. I got my .25 250z a few days ago and threw a scope on it today.I already had the .249 h&n’s waiting for it based on the same video you saw.I’ll get out there tomorrow and see how the .249’s work out for me,i’ll focus on the 30g and 36g at 50 and 100yds.I also have aea 30gr in .250,as well as Knock outs and impulse air which are suppose to be the same as fx hybrids.First time shooting my 250 Z 25 caliber tried a bunch of slugs today did not have too much time but was able to shoot a bunch of three shot groups. For the slugs you’re gonna wanna put the reg around 2500/2600psi. Hammer spring will tighten the groups right up. The 36gr will hold great groups at range but hunting I get a lot of pass throughs at range. I have much better results with slugs around 30-31gr… get them going around 950 and you’ll see what I mean… I hit a squirrel at 125y today and my drop was only like 3mildot so like 10.5” right?Just took out my .25 250z for the first time.Fairly impressed with it out of the box.2 shot zero at 30yd.Shot pretty flat out to 50yds not too much of a drop, put a couple right next to each other there.Had about a 14” drop from 50 to 100yds so made the adjustments (up til this point using AEA 33.9gr pellets). So at 100yds i shot 1 group of AEA 34gr pellets and 2 groups with H&N .249 36gr slugs before it started to rain a little.Surprisingly despite the wind kicking up a little the pellets still outperformed the slugs with a 1.5 inch group vs a couple 2” groups with the .249 slugs. Then i put 8 shots in a row on our 3” steel hangers and called it a day.Pretty impressed straight out of the box,no reg/hammer spring tuning or moderator which is supposed to tighten 100yd groups right up.

I tried a lot of the H&N 250 diameter also zan also the javelin nsa and Griffin different weight the 250 size maybe the 249 diameter are the way to go haven’t tried the knockout let me know what works thank youI got my .25 250z a few days ago and threw a scope on it today.I already had the .249 h&n’s waiting for it based on the same video you saw.I’ll get out there tomorrow and see how the .249’s work out for me,i’ll focus on the 30g and 36g at 50 and 100yds.I also have aea 30gr in .250,as well as Knock outs and impulse air which are suppose to be the same as fx hybrids.
Let me know, what works I’m thinking the diameter 249 maybe the barrel likes that size I gotta get some to do more testingI got my .25 250z a few days ago and threw a scope on it today.I already had the .249 h&n’s waiting for it based on the same video you saw.I’ll get out there tomorrow and see how the .249’s work out for me,i’ll focus on the 30g and 36g at 50 and 100yds.I also have aea 30gr in .250,as well as Knock outs and impulse air which are suppose to be the same as fx hybrids
That’s why the best thing you can do is slug the barrel… I asked 802airhead aka the guy who makes the Rogue Air products for this gun and he said if you use undersized ammo your liable to lose fps as you’re not getting a good seal with the grooves.Let me know, what works I’m thinking the diameter 249 maybe the barrel likes that size I gotta get some to do more testing
I’ll try to get out there later today if the weather cooperates.I have the H&N’s in 30gr,34gr and 36gr (.249) and i also have H&N in 30gr and 36gr (.250) so i can really compare the two diameters to see which of the two shoots better head to head.I’ll post everything upLet me know, what works I’m thinking the diameter 249 maybe the barrel likes that size I gotta get some to do more testing
How many shots are you getting on a fill at 2500 and 2700psi reg? That’s why the best thing you can do is slug the barrel… I asked 802airhead aka the guy who makes the Rogue Air products for this gun and he said if you use undersized ammo your liable to lose fps as you’re not getting a good seal with the grooves.
Not saying .249 is the wrong choice either. Unfortunately the quality control isn’t perfect. But just check your speeds. 850fps to shoot the 36gr works great for punching paper and getting small groups. This gun will do it. But for hunting it’s not the way to go. I’ve hunted will almost every weight slug between 30&40..under about 875/865fps you’re not gonna get much expansion on small game. If it’s fox sized or bigger maybe. But where I hunt if you don’t drop a squirrel/rabbit instantly then you’re probably not gonna find it. I’m not gonna argue for any other point than the lighter stuff going faster drops them better… it’s actually the same fpe. I never took the reg back down. If anything I’m even slightly higher now. Closer to 2700psi. But if you play with the gun enough you’ll find that the sweet spot is right around 57-62fpe without heavy modification.
Sounds good I wanted to go this coming weekend but have to move my daughter, but I will be ordering some more slugs also I have more slugs to test that I haven’t shot and retest the ones that shot good. I was shooting 3 shot groups with the grizzly 31 g at 50 yards. They were all touching. I measured it. It was a 3/8 also the zan 33g it was 1/2 I am going to do five shot groups next and then stretch it out let me know. Thank you.I’ll try to get out there later today if the weather cooperates.I have the H&N’s in 30gr,34gr and 36gr (.249) and i also have H&N in 30gr and 36gr (.250) so i can really compare the two diameters to see which of the two shoots better head to head.I’ll post everything up
Yeah let’s all just share whatever data we get so we can get these things figured out in short order.I’ll do a couple groups of five different variations of .249 &.250 slugs i pulled for this round of testing. Then i’ll turn up the reg to 2500 (slug pressure) and repeat for comparison.I’ll start with the brands below.Sounds good I wanted to go this coming weekend but have to move my daughter, but I will be ordering some more slugs also I have more slugs to test that I haven’t shot and retest the ones that shot good. I never really keep it at 2500… between 2600-2700 im getting 20-25. It depends on temperature. Your gun will use more air when it’s cold. I have the slug power kit so with my hammer spring tension really low it’s not opening the valve too much. Having played with this thing a lot I’ve never really seen an fps boost from the hammer spring. In fact when I first got the kit tried using the 40gr slugs and what I actually found is that I got a much noisier/less efficient gun and the 40’s were doing the same 810-815fps.How many shots are you getting on a fill at 2500 and 2700psi reg?
