Slug tuning help

It seems like my .30 caliber NSA slugs do the same thing as yours. I'm not sure on fliers yet, but I started weight sorting out a bag of slugs and got two consistent piles of slugs that are not off on weight my much (.2 grains). The proportion of the two piles is about what the fliers proportions are. I need to measure the slugs o.d. of the two piles as well, as that could be it too. Have you tried lubing the slugs? That is going to be my next experiment after I check accuracy again.

What I dont get is why is it only slugs? When shooting pellets, doesnt seem to matter for me. I can shoot it free recoil, tight, loose, bipod, etc no change. One thing I tried, but could of been a fluke. I used a tool to jam the slug with full engagement into the rifling and it seemed consistent but I ran out of time. Monday Im machining the one liner to have 1.5 degree lead and chopping off all the freebore. Its only going to work for the vk’s tho I cant seem to push the nsa’s by hand.

I would suggest machining so that the slug of choice is not quite in full engagement into the rifling. Instead just seated into your 1.5 degree lead.

You can always remove more. Just my thought....

Good call. I’ll creep up to it. I just did a quick experiment at 150 yards since its calm. I made a quick “ seating depth” tool ( ALMOST shot it out the barrel lol) and I can say this, once I got that slug fully engaged to the heel into the lands, consistency was soooooo much better. I shot 150 bar on reg for 20, down under to 120 bar for another 25 or so. Poi never changed, and it was a nice little group! My velocity went up some off the reg, not much about 20 fps. 150 bar reg Im at 1040fps and off reg it got up around 1060 and back down to 1040 at 120 bar. Now this isnt a impact. Would you increase the hammer or leave it? Tommorrow im going to machine a new barrel so I’ll check back in.

Grrr found what happen. Ughh something so simple to. Theres a small rod that connects the bolt to the hammer. It came loose and was dragging bad sometimes on hammer. Loctite it, groups great again. Well, atleast it was a easy fix! Its amazing how something so simple can cause such erratic behavior in airguns. Thinking back, I knew this thing sounded louder sometimes but I thought it was just me. It was dragging on the valve return.
