Slug testing with the STX B liner

Decided to jump on the slug bandwagon and I’ve been surprised at the results I've been getting out of my Impact and 600mm pellet liner B. Spent a couple hours grouping several different projectiles today. Turns out that several of the new slug designs do very well with this set up.

I shot 4 5-shot groups at 50 yards with each pellet, starting with the power wheel set at max then 5, 4 etc. I don’t consider myself a great shot, it was about 20 degrees outside today but no wind and all of them performed ok... some shot really well.

Best groups :

1 - JSB monster redesigned (.26” CTC) - for reference

2 - FX hybrid slugs (.74” CTC)

3 - H&N slugs .217 23grn (.33” CTC)

4 - H&N slugs .217 25grn (.43” CTC)

5 - H&N slugs .217 27grn (.41” CTC)

6 - NSA .217 20.3grn (44” CTC)

7 - NSA .218 24.8grn (.35” CTC)

8 - H&N slugs .218 23grn (.62” CTC)

9 - H&N slugs .218 25grn (.38” CTC)

10 - H&N slugs .218 27grn (.44” CTC)

All slugs tended to hold tightest between 920 and 960 fps. I gotta say the slugs are performing about as well as any pellet I’ve seen. Anyone else trying slugs in the B liner?

Are all these groups shot with same reg pressure and valve flow control (VFC) settings on your Impact. Not knowing your own tuning process I can only relate that AirGunner Bob, a really good long range "slugmaster" found that for best performance he tuned for each slug and weight, Once he had achieved the maximum velocity setting with a wide open VFC he dropped the velocity back off the maximum (w/ the Valve Flow Control which had preovislu been wide open) to a point on the slope leading up to the maximum. Ernest has a video up about the process on his YouTube Channel. As a Crown owner I dont have near the ability that Impact owners have even with a fully "Rowed" FX Crown and the 700mm Slug Liner. If youre shooting 600mm you might consider a 700mm barrel setup. It also helps to know what the manufacturers recommendations are for the slug being used. My recollection was Bob really liked some of the heavier slugs made by Varmint Knockers. Dale takes unusuall pride in his slug manufacturing at Varmint Knockers.

I'm no Nimrod but I followed slug development in its early days and really wish I had gotten into an Impact as soon as I realized the Crowns tuning limitations. You defintley have the right tool!

Yes, these groups were all done at the same reg pressure, just over 150 bar (according to the FXguage) At max power I was getting about 940 fps out of the 27 grain slugs. I wanted to see which slug, if any, grouped well out of this barrel. I plan on taking them out to 100 yards next to figure out which one my gun "likes" best then I'll start tuning specificly to that pellet. What's interesting is that all the .218 grain H&N slugs found their sweet spot right arround 920 to 960 FPSt regardless of weigh. So that will be a good place to start.

I did shoot some groups with my A liner with less than stellar results. The A liner is pellet on pellet with the 18 grain JSBs everything else is just all over the place.
