Slug shootout: Zan vs Impulse Air, 22cal

It was dead calm this morning, so I set-up @35yds. So which one performed better in my AEA 22cal Varmint? The group on the left is the Impulse slugs, and ofcourse the group on the right is the Zans. Both 22gr, .217. Speed is 985fps. Both are 5 shot groups. The white target is 6 shots @ 50yds with the Impulse slugs shot yesterday in 10-15 mph breeze. Target squares are 1".

I do think you found the perfect slug! Very very tight groups there!

I’ve had good results from my impulse slugs too out of my .25 U2 600. They’re pretty much an FX hybrid clone.

Hello,
You should definitely try .218 slugs(our), they should work better in AEA.
Diameter goes together with material so same diameter and different slug(slug material) will not give you same results.

Thanks for the suggestion, very much appreciated. I will try the .218. I may not remember correctly, but I don't think .218 was available when I bought my Zan slugs. Also, I want to point out the group I shot with your .217 is damn good. Thanks for being on this site and caring about our community. Looking forward to trying the .218. Regards, Bill and Addi.

I recently purchased some Impulse Air HBT’s to try. Bought a bag of 22 and one of 25. I have not tried the 22’s yet maybe next week I will shoot them through my M3 and see what they do.
The 25’s shot very well out of my Crown MKII 600mm. I had the gun set up to shoot NSA 26.8 slugs. The tune was power wheel on max setting, hammer pretension maxed out and 145 bar. They were shooting around 945’ish but thought the accuracy was pretty good. Shot the IA slugs with the power wheel two clicks down from max and they did well then put the PW on max. At 110 yards they shot better yet. I think the BC was better than the NSA’s. Less drop and wind drift at 110 yards. I didn’t shoot a group because I was out plinking but I could hit shotgun hulls far more consistently with them than the NSA’s or the 34 gr H&N’s I was playing with.
I am wondering what they will do in the 22 version?
I will add that in my M3 I have not found a slug that will compete with the Zan 23 gr .218’s. Very accurate. Will see how the AI HBT’s fare against the Zan.
