Pretty hard to beat the NSA offerings . Not sure if you can find a sample pack right now since he just moved the business. That’s where I would start. eBay usually has a huge selection but scattered from one brand to the other. I cast my own and have very rarely bought them. I do think that anyone serious about shooting solid projectiles should get the tooling for sizing. I use the NOE die and inserts as well as a Lee hand press. All in it cost me about 300$ but my results are well worth the expense.
I’ve been very happy with NSA slugs. So far they have been very consistent and have shot quite well in my Impact and my Crown. I’m shooting .22 caliber in both. 24.8 grain in my Impact and 27.5 grain in my Crown.
I just finished testing more than 30 different slugs through this rifle- two 10 shot groups each at 90 yards. The NSA .218 20.2 grain proved to be the best performing combination in rifle, shooting groups at an average of about 1”.
I detuned my RAW HM1000x LRT .22 to shoot 18gr JSB @ 950fps and NSA 17.5gr .2175 @ 935fps very accurately. You need to see what size slugs fit your leade correctly which should be snug not loose. If your RAW is factory tuned then 20-23gr slugs and get sample packs of different weights and diameters, which ones your barrel likes will be obvious right away. Good luck and have fun, great rifles!
I was looking at heavier pellets for 50 yards and to help buck the wind but I'll try these weights. I assume you're barrel is also choked? Do you match the slug more to the breech size or the choked size,? I shoot .22 benchrest and really don't like choked barrels.
Mine is a non choked LW poly barrel, RAW’s come non choked unless ordered with a choked barrel. If a barrel is choked then you have to fit the slug to the choke and not the breech. And, like you, Martin the owner of RAW, prefers non choked barrels also!
