Slug gun builds???

I usually try to jump on this forum at least once a day. I never see, with the exception of FX owners, any topics about guys turning a pellet shooter into a slug shooter. I am guilty but I am not a big topic starter. The process of putting a dedicated slug barrel on your gun and dialing it in can be a very educational process. Sometimes everything works out and sometimes the gun fights you. How many guys out there are putting good slug barrels on Crickets, Vulcans, Taipans, etc.? Or are the majority of wannabe slug shooters content with trying to push them through chokes? With slugs now coming from pellet makers, that doesn't happen unless a company sees a bandwagon to jump on. Guys who want to commit to slugs are going to need more info than what is currently available. Unless you own an FX Impact. I think its almost time for a slug gun section on this forum. You can find a thousand times what kind of pellet a Prod or Taipan likes in the PCP section. Try finding what a TJ barrel likes. Guys cutting off chokes, popular sizing for different barrels and calibers, and all the tuning tips that help or hurt shooting slugs would be real handy in its own sub forum. Maybe there are topics about builds on page 145, 229 and 302 but they aren't always easy to find. The Projectiles section has some good info but it is about projectiles. I would definitely post my builds if I knew they wouldn't get lost in a sea of regular airgun stuff.

Well the search for "slug barrel" turned up quite a few hits but most were the Impact barrel liners and the Rapters with the TJ replacement barrel. Whether or not your posts get lost, not likely with the search function, or not really does not matter. The fact that you took the time to do it is what counts cuz somebody will eventually stumble across them even without a search function and lucky them when they do.

I have 257texan thats good out of box shooting everything it can stabilize over 1000fps really solid out of box.

I also have my own build SPA M10 with lothar walther 222rem barrel on it generating 100fpe. M10 is easily buildable platform and even the stock barrel is good for standard box slugs with some machining mainly to make sure bolt is secured and air channels are big enough. This is my spa.

Knifemakers posts are exactly what I am talking about. It’s usually on GTA but it’s cool to see all the different barrels he tries. He makes his own bullets so that kinda leaves the average guy who just wants to buy them out. But there is still good info to be gathered. We just need more guys like him. There is a guy in the hunting forum with a wicked Cricket. Never seen a thing about the build. A guy asked but he gave a vague description. Would have made a good topic on him building and tuning. Guess he would rather post killing stuff. I’m just saying a search should turn up more than 2 factory guns. Hundreds of us have built them like jiikuu did.

Well man it all comes down to branding and marketing and thats why there is so many ppl speaking about FX thats what that company is best with.

Not every ppl have lathe or millingmachine or general knowledge of material strenghts or skill to make something and ppl who do are not usually interested about spending 2k on gun that dosent suit their needs or via versa. These are completely different worlds and most on this forum are completely interested only on stuff that you can buy.

So many great points. I just posted a were's the slug section type of post a few minutes ago. I like your idea much better. A slug gun section

A gun talk area for builds and related info.

A slug sub area could have the accuracy result etc. to keep the gun section cleaner. Just my .02....

Here's a build I did. Had to build a machine shop Lathe, Mill and enough tooling to be able to make anything I want first though.

My slug gun build – .35 cal. converted to .25 cal. with an index-able barrel.

I have been (avidly) following any mention of slug guns and slug shooting and also feel that it is really a separate "special interest" area that would benefit from its own section on the forum.

IMHO, slug shooting is just another airgun discipline requiring specialized equipment and skills - it's no different than 10 meter target vs field target vs 100 yard benchrest shooting - makes sense to have a seperate area for it.
