Slug Fever

" Well I’d love to give u my experience’s with slugs… but ordered some Rat sniper slugs in.22 almost 5mo. Ago!, “Slightly Impatient” "

I'm sure he will get right on your slugs just as soon as he takes care of the 15+ $1,000 rifles he never built/delivered.

Long live the Millennium Pumper and Rat Sniper slugs! When you want want want it's somewhere to throw money.

My profile photo shows what slugs (31gr. @ 876 FPS Muzzle velocity) do at 60 yards after a Ground Squirrel broadside (Heart/Lung) pass through.

First one is shot into plastic bags. No damage.

Next 3 - all were captured in same bags after the pass through. Expanding to about a .45 cal. average.

Just keep the velocity up at POI or the hollow point is not going to expand at all. - ( 31gr-32r. @ 870 FPS muzzle = TO SLOW AT 100 yard POI for proper expansion.

But, inside of the effective range a .25 cal. HP slug that works, is impressive.

They will release as much or more energy to a small squirrel sized pest than a .30 cal.Dome @ the same velocity.

Yes I know beverage cans of water are not small game. But the results are consistent with the cadavers I've shot in tests.

.25 cal. Cricket owners should know:  That a stock mag. will not hold slugs very well. They will start to fall out the back of the mag. as you shoot. I only put 5-6 in a mag. for that reason. They can hang out and collide with the receiver or probe causing damage before they even get into the breech.

Accuracy past 100 yards is were they really shine though. Especially at my favorite ranges of 150 - 200+ yards.

Interesting tests there @Long_Shot! I would be very interested to see the projectile speeds out of mine at 100y or greater. Probably wouldn't be much fun to try and test without something like Doppler though, eh?

Yikes! That's no good 👀

Jeff,

I just ordered a batch of those 22.5gr slugs from his eBay store yesterday. Looking forward to trying them.

One thing I noticed about the varmint knocker slugs is that they have a shorter nose than the NSA brand, which makes them longer toward the rear in order to keep the same weight. This could be beneficial with the lighter weight slugs.

Oh cool I think you’ll like them, wry uniform with zero defects which makes this an inherently nice design. What are you shooting them thru and at what speed do you think you can get them up to?

I also tried the 28gr boattail hollowpoints and was getting them up to 900fps or so but could never manage to get more than 1 or 2 out of 30 to show up on the chrony. Would love to know how they do around 960fps but at 880fps they didn’t group well past 40yds. But man o man, when you hit the side of a squirrel with one of those things at 50fpe... my goodness, the impact was so loud it made me pop off of the scope like what the heck was that?!

I don’t know if these can be beat for kill shots inside 40yds but those Varmint Knockers are much more slippery of a design in general and better long range out of my gun. Wonder how fast they will stay stable with a 1:17 twist rate.

Damn! I think I will stick with NSA for the moment

Yep!, should have known he was no good!, did anybody ever get his slugs? All I heard was how well they shot...

I had to cancel my order with Rat Sniper Slugs through PayPal or credit card, can't remember at this point but that's irrelevant, since he took way too long,(over a month after being paid ) and was un-responsive. I have always had good service and product from Mr. Hollow Point and Nielsen Specialty so RSS is dead to me now.

I bought Rat Snipers a few years back. Sounds like he got tired of standing in front of a press all day and night. Too bad.

mtnGhost - I've been planning to do some tests out to 200 yards with 2 chronys. One @ about 12 ft. and one in front of the target.

I've done this out to 90 yards with one chrony. Average at the muzzle and average a POI.

Quit because at 90 yards I lost most of the HP expansion @ POI. Below 850 - 860 FPS no good.....

Those shooting .22 cal. at higher velocity got my attention.

edosan,

I ordered a batch of Varmint Knocker slugs from D-Rigs eBay store. Handled and shipped quickly.

I have yet to try them as I'm still waiting on my slug liner.

Bob, I'm shooting through a choked barrel, do the ST and STX liners not shoot any slugs well categorically (that aren't specifically made for slugs)?

I tried the NSA slugs through my ST-X pellet liner.....they were terrible at 50yds. So bad that I didn't even try them at 100.

Air Hunters are getting sub-moa at 100yds with the slug liners. Matt Dubber got half-moa at 200+ yds with the slug liner.

jajaI ask Matt...What mods do you have in order to shoot 28gn slugs on 0.22 cal @ 950 fps? ... he respond: "I'll share all that info at a later stage" .... jajaja no way a stock impact will do that (nor Crown). So for those thinking is just the Slug Liner, NO is not! (not you bob! jaja, just a warning for the less experienced Fx shooters) , any way, sub moa @ 220 yards (200 meters) is really awesome!

My wife already thinks (knows) that I'm a little crazy. I'm not sure how I'd warm her up to the idea of having a tank of He in the house Lol! 👀
