I'm in the PNW too, and this one is the type I have.
It has given me a fail to read. Only in poor light. I just move it. No more problem.
There's a 1/4" thick piece of clear "pellet proof" glass for protection for long range reading.
It's bulky. But, I prefer a barn door sized opening to shoot through....
That's a very good idea!
