Slug dimple vs hollow accuracy.

Ok new to slug here so have no experience. They offer slugs in both hollow point and dimple. Which is more accurate of the two? Why isn't there any round tip slug? Wouldn't round nose be more air dynamic? Air flows evenly as the round nose fly? Does the hollow point affect accuracy? Cause I can see air going into the hollow hole and slow it down or something while round nose can just cut through the air like butter. Or am I wrong? Since dimple slug have a smaller hole, wouldn't it be more accurate? IDC about the expansion of the hollow point. I want accuracy over expansion. Which slug should I get? You might say why not both. Cause I'm a broke man. Slugs are $21 plus shipping. I don't want to spend $42 plus shipping to find out.

In the RAW and Impact in .25, the large hollow point is far more accurate than the dimple nosed slugs in every instance I've tested except for a 31.3 Rat Sniper that isn't made anymore. I understand your thinking but for whatever reason, the larger hollow point shoot better. I've had no luck at all with any of the dimple nose slugs. In addition, the flat bases shoot best by far in the FX guns and the dished base shoot best in the RAW. Others may have different results but I've tested over 90 different slugs in .25 and the results are always the same in regards to your question. I test each slug from about 840fps to 980fps to find the tightest group and fine tune from there. I just can't ever get the dimpled nose slugs to shoot very well or consistently. Here are a few I tested today. The best by far was the Nielsen 29gr @ 910-915fps. Targets are at 50yds, 75yds, 100yds and 150yds.

My gun is the impact in 25 cal. I plan to shoot the 36gr and just asking if I should get the dimple or hollow. Seem like hollow it is. I always thought hollow point is bad for accuracy cause air can go inside the hole and affect its flight. I shoot JSB pellets and only round nose. Never shot hollow point pellets due to thinking they aren't accurate as round nose.

I would liken it to a golf ball in that the hollow point has a bubble of air in front of it that pushes the air in front of the slug out of the way as if is pushed forward. With two slugs of the same weight, the dimple nose does go a little faster but for me, the accuracy just isn't there. I have a lot of Nielson Slugs and have tested the 36gr. in my Impact, it does shoot well. However, if you're looking for accuracy above all else, you might want to take a look at the 29gr that Nick Nielson just released. It's the most accurate slug I've tested yet, that includes all of the Varmint Knocker and Rat Snipers as well as all of the other Nielson slugs. Here are a couple of pictures of groups I shot today out of my RAW...the first is a 5 shot group at 75yds, the second is a 5 shot group at 100yds. My thumb nail is 5/8". Because the flat base slugs shoot best in the FX and the dish base slugs shoot best in the RAW, I suggest you try them both and maybe a couple others. Send me a private message with your e-mail and shipping address, I'll send you a few of the 29gr and 36gr and a couple others with a flat base to test out, I have enough to hook you up! Stoti
