Got this big boy last night at the bait station, using .25 crown and the 25.39 JSB pellet. Shot for the heart, and he did a little puff of spray and hobbled about 30 feet. But there was no smell on him and I could just pick it up and bag it. I really wanted to get this one because it would get up steps and onto my back deck to eat the cats food. One night I opened the door to feed the cat and the skunk was three feet away looking at me. A poor neighbor surprised it on her porch and got sprayed! This makes it skunk number four that I used the heart shot on. And while it sprayed a little bit I’m still going to always use that shot. It seems harsh, but I’m guessing that the pellet tears through the vitals without hitting any bone. And the skunk is physically able to run for cover so instead of spraying it heads for cover. Just a guess, but I’m glad this one is gone.
